Chemical cleaner for lead alloy anodes of chromium acid
containing solutions

1. Process Information
Anokleen® is a powder used to make a solution to provide an effective immersion method of removing scale
that forms on lead alloy anodes during chromium plating.

Anokleen® has following special characteristics:

• Mild chemical cleaning of the anodes without attacking the anode-alloys
• Immersion process, no current required
• Safer working conditions due to the absence of poisonous lead and lead alloy dust

2. Equipment

Tank Steel.
Heater Steel immersion heater.
Agitation Increases the cleaning effect.
Exhaust Not necessary.

3. Make-Up

Make-up of 100 l Liter kg

Water approx. 93 --
®
Anokleen -- 25.0

Attention:
The solution heats up during make-up!
Anokleen® is very alkaline (caustic)!
During make-up and usage protect eyes and hands!

4. Application Guidelines
Effect
Remove sludge and encrustation from lead anodes by a simple immersion (dip) process.
The necessary time required to clean an anode depends on the thickness of the scale present on the anode.
Normally at room temperature the anodes should be immersed in the Anokleen® bath for 20-30 minutes to
loosen the scale sufficiently that it can be brushed off easily, while still wet.
By increasing the temperature to as high as 55°C in creases the rate of cleaning so that the scale can be
removed after only 5 – 10 minutes of soaking.
If so desired, the anodes can stay for a longer period time or even overnight in the Anokleen® bath, without
excessive chemical attack of the anodes.

Procedure

• Remove the anodes from the chromium bath.

• Rinse thoroughly with water.
• Immerse the anode in the Anokleen® bath.
• Remove the anode from the bath after a suitable time period and, if necessary, brush off loosely
adherent scale, while the anode is still wet.
• Rinse the anode thoroughly with water.
• Return the anodes to the chromium plating tank.
When hanging / inserting the anodes back into the tank follow the specific operating instructions for the
chromium process, (e.g. under current when exposed to the plating bath).

When handling any chromium bath make sure you adhere to all regulations regarding chromic acid
