1. Specify the best times for sample collection for sputum AFB .

An early morning, deep cough specimen collected on three (3) consecutive days is best for initial
diagnosis of tuberculosis. If sputa are collected within the same 24-hour period, a minimum of
eight (8) hours between specimens is required.

2. Urine sample collection method for patients with indwelling catheter.

Clean the catheter collection port with a 70% alcohol swab • Using sterile technique, puncture the
collection port with a needle attached to a syringe • Aspirate the urine and place it into a sterile
container. Do not use urine from collection bag

3. Best time for blood culture for a patient with fever .

All the above.

4. How long does it take to get ESR blood test results?

You should have the results in 1 or 2 hours. A lab technician will place your red blood cells into a
tall, thin tube and check how far they fall in 1 hour. When you have inflammation in your body,
abnormal proteins in your blood make red blood cells form into clumps. ESR test results
are measured in millimeters per hour (mm/hr). The higher the number, the higher the likelihood of
inflammation. Overall, females naturally have higher ESR levels. between 0 and 20 mm/hr. ESR
levels higher than 100 mm/hr could suggest a serious disease, such as infection, heart disease,
or cancer
