TASK 35-23-07-870-804
4. Purpose of Equipment
The 801307 Series CVA is a self-contained, unregulated, high pressure oxygen source that supplies
aviation grade oxygen (per Military Specification MIL-PRF-27210, Type I or SAE AS8010 Type I) to crew
members and passengers.
TASK 35-23-07-870-805
5. Typical Installation
The CVA is typically mounted in the front section of the aircraft using two optional Cylinder-Band Clamp-
Bracket Assemblies (Figure 5). The optional Cylinder-Band Clamp-Bracket Assembly used is dependent
upon the size of the cylinder assembly.
Refer to the nominal dimensions in Table 5 to determine which Cylinder-Band Clamp-Bracket Assembly
P/N to use for each cylinder assembly callout configuration used in the 801307 Series CVA.
Typical Installation
Figure 3
TASK 35-23-07-870-806
6. Operation
Subtask 35-23-07-870-001
A. Cylinder
The cylinder is a US Department of Transportation (DOT) & Transport Canada (TC) rated pressure
vessel that holds oxygen gas at a nominal working pressure of 1800 - 1850 psig (12.4 - 12.8 MPa). The
cylinder is made of steel. Information on the cylinder service life and the hydrostatic test frequency
requirements can be found in the CHECK section Table 5003 (Cylinder Inspection Frequency).
Subtask 35-23-07-870-002
B. Oxygen Valve Assembly
The oxygen valve is a manually-operated, slow-opening, on/off valve that features metal-to-metal
seating, and a single inlet, single outlet construction. The handle requires approximately 6 ½ turns to the
full open position. The oxygen valve restricts oxygen flow only during the initial opening action to
prevent a closed system from being pressurized too rapidly. Rapid pressurization of a closed system is
adiabatic in nature and may result in a potentially hazardous temperature rise.
Refer to Figure 4 for an illustration of an oxygen valve. With the oxygen valve installed in a high
pressure cylinder and the handle (6) in the closed position (fully clockwise) the poppet (2) is seated on
the seat and filter assembly (3) and oxygen gas is retained in the high pressure cylinder.

6. Operation (Continued)
B. Oxygen Valve Assembly (Continued)
When the handle is in the open position (fully counterclockwise) the poppet w/ tip is raised off of the
seat and filter assembly allowing oxygen to flow through the inlet (1) to the outlet (5). A gauge (7) is
provided to monitor the oxygen pressure in the attached cylinder during storage, valve operation or
cylinder refilling. Also, a safety outlet assembly (4) is installed to vent oxygen in the event of system
over-pressurization and a cap assembly (8) is provided to prevent contamination from entering outlet
during storage.
Cylinder-Band Clamp-Bracket Assemblies, (Figure 5) sold and shipped separately as optional accessories,
may be used to secure CVA configurations within an aircraft. The part number used is dependent upon the
size of the cylinder assembly.
Refer to the nominal dimensions in Table 5 to determine which Cylinder-Band Clamp-Bracket Assembly
P/N to use for each cylinder assembly callout configuration used in the 801307 Series CVA.
For availability of Cylinder-Band Clamp-Bracket Assemblies, refer to the contacts listed in paragraphs 3.B
and 3.C in the INTRODUCTION section in this manual.

STORAGE
TASK 35-23-07-500-801
1. General
This section contains information on storage (including transportation) recommendations for the
P/N 801307 Series CVA’s.
TASK 35-23-07-550-801
2. Storage
A. Ensure that the valve assembly hand knob is set in the “OFF” position before the CVA is transported
or put in storage.
B. The CVA should always be transported or put in storage with a minimum oxygen pressure to prevent
contamination from entering the cylinder. Cylinders charged to less than 25.9 psig at 68°F (20°C) are
considered empty by the US Department of Transportation. A CVA, even when it contains a minimum
amount of oxygen pressure, still must be stored and transported under all applicable regulations.
A CVA that is completely depleted of oxygen pressure must be assumed to be contaminated. Refer to
the CLEANING section in this manual and clean the CVA if the oxygen pressure has been depleted.
C. Make sure all protective caps, plugs and covers are tightly installed on the CVA.
D. Put the CVA in a clean polyethylene bag and seal it for protection from dust and dirt.
E. Store the CVA in a cool area, away from sources of high heat and humidity.
F. Refer to the applicable aircraft maintenance manual for procedures to reinstall the CVA.
TASK 35-23-07-510-801
3. Transportation
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) provides rules
affecting shipments of compressed oxygen cylinders by ground (motor freight), passenger carrying aircraft,
and cargo aircraft. These regulations are specified in applicable sections of CFR Title 49 - Transportation,
Subtitle B, Chapter 1, Subchapter C (Hazardous Materials Regulations).
After October 1, 2008, the DOT changed the allowable pressure relief device (PRD) pressure range for
cylinder type 3AA when shipped by air. CVA P/N's 801307-00 thru 801307-11 and P/N 801307-20 thru
801307-24 comply with CFR 173.302a(f)(2)(i) and (ii) requirements for PRD's on compressed oxygen
cylinders. Some AVOX Systems P/N 801307-25 CVA's were manufactured that did not conform to the new
rule. Refer to the REWORK section of this CMM for information on replacing a non-compliant PRD with a
PRD that is compliant with this rule.
Additional requirements and regulations (e.g., Transport Canada) for transport of oxygen cylinders may
apply in other countries.

REWORK
TASK 35-23-07-99C-805
1. US DOT Rule Change (Incorporation of SIL-35-109)
US DOT Rule Change Requires Replacement of Pressure Relief Device on certain 801307 Series CVA’s
in Order to Ship by Air as Cargo or Company Owned Material (COMAT) When Filled with Oxygen.
After October 1, 2008, the new rule required a pressure relief device (PRD) with a pressure range from 90
to 100 percent of the cylinder test pressure for cylinder type 3AA. Some AVOX Systems CVA’s were man-
ufactured with a PRD (safety plug or safety outlet assembly) that does not conform to the new rule.
Subtask 35-23-07-840-001
A. Affected CVA’s
Some of the CVA’s listed in Table 16001 may have been included in kits for installing the CVA on
aircraft. CVA’s installed in an aircraft as part of the required equipment for flight are not affected
unless a CVA is removed and offered for shipment by air as cargo or COMAT. CVA’s manufactured
after January 1, 2008 have a PRD attached to the valve that is compliant with the new rule

Subtask 35-23-07-210-001
B. Determine Whether or Not any Action is Necessary by Performing Step 1.B.(1), 1.B.(2), or 1.B.(3)
(1) At the time of overhaul or maintenance, check the date of manufacture on your CVA identification
label (-15, IPL Fig.1). If the manufacturing date is after January 1, 2008, no further action is
necessary.
(2) Compare the part number on the CVA identification label (5, IPL Fig. 1) to the Affected CVA P/N
(Table 16001). If the part numbers match, examine the valve body to confirm that the old valve
part number (Table 16001) is not stamped into the valve body (refer to "Current Dash Number" in
Figure 16003). If the old dash number ("20") is not stamped into the valve body, or if it has been
stamped out with "XX" and the new valve dash number ("2E") has been stamped on the valve
body as shown in Figure 16003, then no further action is necessary.
(3) Check the cylinder for the US DOT Compliance Label P/N 10014464. The label would have been
applied to the cylinder if the CVA was modified to comply with the new DOT rule. Refer to Figures
16001 and 16002 for identification of the label and its location on the cylinder. If the cylinder
includes the compliance label, no further action is required.

C. Replacement of a Non-compliant PRD with a PRD that Complies with the New Rule
(1) Accomplish this replacement at the next hydrostatic test, but no later than the first hydrostatic test
after October 1, 2008. There is one PRD on a CVA.

(2) Accomplish this replacement off-wing. Use the steps in the DISASSEMBLY section to remove the
old safety outlet. Use the steps in the ASSEMBLY section to install safety outlet. Do this during a
hydrostatic test, an overhaul, a repair, or strictly for the replacement of the safety outlet. Re-
identify the valve and attach the compliance label to the cylinder as instructed.
WARNING: FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES AND HEED THE WARNINGS IN THIS
MANUAL OR ATTEMPTING TO PERFORM ANY OF THE PROCEDURES IN THIS
MANUAL UNLESS TRAINED IN THE PROPER USE AND MAINTENANCE OF AVIATION
OXYGEN EQUIPMENT MAY RESULT IN AN EXPLOSION, ILLNESS, SERIOUS
PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
(3) Read and understand all the information and heed all warnings in this manual before performing
any procedures on the CVA. Perform all procedures in the sequence of operations given. Do not
attempt to perform any of the procedures in this manual unless you are trained and qualified in
the proper use and maintenance of aviation oxygen equipment. Maintenance personnel must
know how to avoid the hazards of maintaining aviation oxygen equipment and must comply with
all applicable government regulations.

TASK 35-23-07-840-802
2. Removal from service of all suspect 115 cu. ft. oxygen cylinders in certain AVOX Systems P/N 801307
Series Cylinder Assemblies (Incorporation of SB 6084-34-35-01)
AVOX was notified that a 115 cu. ft. cylinder had ruptured during hydrostatic testing. The manufacturer of
the cylinder determined that three lots of 115 cu. ft. cylinders were affected. All of the affected cylinders and
the components that contain them must be removed from service. SB 6084 34-35-01 identified the affected
AVOX Systems cylinders and cylinder assemblies and told how to replace the affected units.
A. Effectivity
(1) Concerned Equipment
Affected 115 cu. ft. cylinders (P/N 6084-34) are used on the AVOX Systems cylinder assemblies
identified in Table 16004. Table 16005 identifies the serial numbers of the affected cylinder assem-
blies. Table 16006 identifies the aircraft on which the affected components can be installed.
All units installed on aircraft and held in stores are affected. Cylinders of other sizes used on any
AVOX Systems cylinder assemblies are not affected.
B. Reason
Four lots of cylinders totaling 275 units have been determined by the cylinder manufacturer to be
potentially defective.
These cylinders could potentially rupture during hydrostatic testing.
These lots of suspect cylinders were discovered after one of the cylinders from these lots ruptured
during a routine hydrostatic test at a maintenance repair organization (MRO).
The rupture of the cylinder occurred at a pressure less than required.
These cylinders present a potential safety issue and as a precaution will require removal from
service and replacement of all units from the suspect lots.
C. Description
Compressed oxygen cylinders and the components of which they are a part that are defective due to
improper heat treating are identified. How to identify them and what to do with them are detailed.
