The aireraft parameters are sent to the transponder by the DLPU and are continuously updated during the light, ‘These parameters are eld in the BDS (Binary Data Store) of the Mod» transponder. ‘The BDS is a 256 x 56 bit data store in the wansponder. ‘The ground sation (Mode S radar and Ground DLPU) may extract these parameters ‘when required, this procedure is called GICB extraction. The parameters have been ‘grouped into several types of reports the contents of which were agreed by DRA. at Malver in Great-Brtain and CENA at AthisMons ~ France. A report contains several parameters and itis expected that several ropots may be exwacted per radar antenna rotation ‘The type and periodicity of reports extracted by the ground would be dependant on ‘the application envisaged (ie. ATC, tacking, aireraft performance, ee), ‘With the DLPU Model C2, a cockpit Data Link Terminal (DLT), an onboard Multiple Input Cockpit Printer (MICP) and a General Purpose File Transfer (GPFT) may be connected ‘The DLPU Model C2 software has boen upgraded to include the Model Data Link B. application software plus the DLT, MICP and GPFT functions Details can be found in the References of Chapter 6 DLPU Modal 2 Abert aation& BDS Alcan AIRCRAFT WIRING SCHEDULES. Several ireraft have been wired for evaluation trials, ‘The types of aircraft and the buses used are shown in Diagrams ! t0 5. AS the parameters and buses available on different types of aircraft are not identical, an sircraft type code is cabled on the aircraft which the DLPU then uses to select the ‘sppropriate BDS allocation table for that aircraft. Hence, the same DLPU may be tused on several diferent aircraft types (up to 16) and must provide identical information for the BDS, BDS ALLOCATION GENERAL ‘A general BDS allocation format has been agreed, as stated provioutly, but because not all of these parameters are available on each type of airraft a "status” bit is Included with each parameter which indicates to the ground that this parameter is available of not Arg lion € BDS Allocation DS ALLOCATION DETAIL. Figures 1 10 10 show in detail the pos resolution, ‘The ARINC 429 parameters circulating on the various aiteraft buses ate assembled into the transponder BDS locations by the DLPU. Each ARINC 429 parameter is Selected by it label (8 bits) and the parameter (up to 20 bits) is then packed into the transponder BDS (S6 bits). Hence several parameters may be packet into each BDS depending on the range and resolution required The status and sign bits foreach parameter are also inserted by the DLPU and are continuously updated by the DLPU, The DLPU also checks the data validity bits of the ARINC words and the ARINC data update rates and lags any anomalies inthe statu bit for each parameter, Hence, if the status bit i not set the parameter is nat valid oF too old ‘The rate at which the DLPU updates each BDS report is programmatle and is shown in the general report table For DLPU Model C2 the BDS allocation tables are best prepared using a 6£000 assembler or compiler that can produce a S-Record file that may then be downloaded fo the DLPU using the load fle Fac DLPU Moa 2" Alert nslation& BDS Allocation GLOSSARY Bos - piu Modes - ace Gpiru pire Mice cer - CENA DRA NLR Binary Data Store ‘One of the 256 56 bit data stores in the Mode S transponder Data Link Processing Unit (Airborne) Selective addressing Mode of secondary radae Ground Initiated Comm-B Message (Downlink Mode § Message) Ground Data Link Processing Unit Data Link Terminal ‘Maliple Input Cockpit Printer General Purpose File Transfer ‘Centre d'Etudes de la Navigation Aévienne (France) DRA Malvern ATC Systems Research Division [National Lucht-en Ruimteveartlaboratorium (Amsterdam) ‘Technical Univesity of Braunschweig (Germany) DLPU Medal "2" Al nsllaion& BDS Allocation REFERENCES 1 ‘Recommendations on BDS Formats and Allocation for Mode § Data-Link - DRA Malvern 90/03/02, [ARINC Mark 33 Digital Information Transfor System (DITS) ARINC Specification 429-14 - 4 January 1993, NLR _DLPU Model C2 Installation Operation and Maintenance Manual TUB DLPU Model C2 User Manual Ref, DLPU-INT-UM-004 TUBIDLT User VO Description Ref.
