Hello, everyone, and welcome to Summer Camp Initiation. Today, we’ll be taking some time
to go over exactly what activities we have in store for you for the next 3 weeks, but before
we get into that, I’d like to give you all some information about the town center. You see, all
camp attendees will occasionally have some free time, especially in the evenings, so I think
it’s important that you all get a bit more familiar with your surroundings and have an idea of
where everything is at.

Now, because it’s raining today, we’ll not be doing what we would normally do, which is take
a walking tour around the town center; rather, I’m going to hand out some maps of the town
center and we’ll simply go over it together. Here you are…please pass these around…

Okay, so, now that you all have maps, let's start by getting our bearings. We’ll start by
locating the Town Hall. It’s the upside-down L-shaped building in the southwest portion of
the map. See it? Great. Now, we can move along. You’ll notice that there’s another
L-shaped building just to the west of it. See it? That’s West Mall; it’s quite popular with kids
of your age and you can shop, eat, and even play video games there or take in a movie at its
theatre. You may even make some local friends by spending a bit of time there, so feel free
to.

Now, between Town Hall and West Mall, right in the middle, you’ll find Town Plaza. It’s a
nice open area with a lot of trees and areas for picnics. People generally visit it at night
because it’s so hot in the daytime, though, so don’t be surprised if it’s empty in the middle of
the afternoon.

Questions
Next, I’d like to draw your attention to the Church of the Revelation, which you can find in the
far northwest portion of the map. Can you see it? Excellent. This is the oldest church in town,
and although it’s become a bit rundown, I happen to still think it’s quite beautiful. Anyway,
there’s a street just to the west of it called Knight Street, and just across Knight Street is
Simpson Cafe; I doubt many of you are coffee drinkers, but you can also get various snacks
and fruit shakes at Simpsons, so make sure you stop in and give it a try; the staff is really
nice there and past campers have always been made to feel very welcome. Wi-Fi is
available there and free, so if you need to send an email or text to your parents, this is a nice
place to do it from.

Continuing on, now I’d like you to look just across Main Street from the church. See that
rectangular building between Main and Bridge Street just to the east of the church? That’s
the Public Library. Now, only locals with library cards can borrow books, but you should all
feel free to stop in during your free time to enjoy the air conditioning and read anything from
its impressive collection of literature for teenagers. Remember to behave and not be too
loud, though, because we wouldn’t want our camp attendees to cause any problems there.

Now, look again at the church. Got it? Good. Just south of the church, you’ll notice 3
buildings just to the north of West Street. Now, the building in the middle is one that you
should know about for sure; it’s called Wiener’s Circle, and it’s been there for over 30 years.
Best hot dogs and fries in town. Quite cheap too, so it’s likely well within all of your budgets.
I’m afraid to say that I’m rather addicted to the food there, as my belly can attest.

In the same area, in the building just to the east of Wiener’s Circle, is another restaurant
called The Diner Grill. There’s no better place for breakfast in town, and it serves breakfast
at all times. For those of you with big appetites, order The Slinger. It’s a huge plate of food
with hash browns, 3 eggs, and two cheeseburger patties, covered with chili, cheese, and
chopped white onions. If you can eat all of it, you’ll get it for free and get your photo taken
and put on the wall. Good luck.

Next, I’d like to direct your attention to the very southeast portion of the map, to the Leisure
Center. Got it? Excellent. Now, can you see the rectangular building just to the north of it,
across Depp Street? That’s General Hospital. I hope none of you suffer any injuries during
your stay here at our summer camp, but some of you are likely to get a few bumps and
bruises. If you’re ever injured in a way that requires medical attention, that’s where we’ll be
taking you for treatment.

Before we continue, let me just say that on rainy days, the Leisure Center is a great place for
you to visit. It has a huge collection of board games, several ping pong tables, and even a
gymnasium where you can play basketball or volleyball.

Okay, now, just look to the south of the Leisure Center, across Day Street. See those two
buildings there? The one to the east is a sporting goods store called Richard’s. It’s a really
great little store, but as we have all that you’ll need at our camp, I doubt you’ll ever need to
visit it. The building just to the west of it, however, you’ll probably need to visit if your parents
plan to send you any supplies or treats, as it is the post office.

Questions
So, let me see…is there anything else I should tell you about…? Oh yeah, one more place.
Many of you might find that you need haircuts during your stay at camp, and you certainly
won’t want me to do it for you. Rather, you should go to Quick Cuts. If you look again at the
northeast portion of the map, at the Public Library, you can find Quick Cuts just east of the
Public Library, across Bridge Street. Of the 2 buildings that you can see there, it’s the one to
the north. The service there is good, fast, and quite cheap.

Is there anything else I need to share with you? No, I think that’s it. Let’s take a 30-minute
break now and we’ll resume initiation afterwards. Please relax and help yourselves to the
snacks and refreshments on the long table behind you.
