Could I become a React Developer in

For a few years now, I have been trying my hand at programming. Looking at
how this article is starting out, you know how successful I was in my previous
attempts.

It is known that programming isn’t a simple task. Yet, it is achievable. I am

encouraged by the fact that no developers were born with an understanding of
programming. Granted, some were (much) more gifted than others, but
everyone started with a Day One.

Today is my Day One.

This time around, I’m starting with some preparations ahead of time. Instead of
going through the whole process alone, I took some time to look into learning
processes first. My gut feel is that I did not set myself up for success with the
way that I was absorbing the information. This time, things have to change.
While there are many learning techniques available, I have selected three that I
feel will benefit my journey most:

1. Ultralearning:: Master Hard Skills,, Outsmart the Competition,, and

Accelerate Your Career — Scott Young

I will start off with the advice to buddy up with someone. Thankfully, the course
that I am taking comes with a Discord group that helps with this.

2. Feynmann Technique

The idea is to learn and pretend to teach what I know to someone else. This
helps me understand where I am falling behind and where I can put in more time
for revision. This is also the key reason for this Medium series that I will be
publishing throughout this course.

3. Deep Work — Cal Newport

My go-to bible for focusing on other work. I will use it for this React journey as
well.

Lastly, this is the course that I am taking:

Complete React Developer in 2020 (w/ Redux, Hooks, GraphQL)
https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-react-developer-zero-to-
mastery/

It is by Andrei Neagoie, who runs Zero to Mastery.

Here’s the thing about Andrei: He knows exactly what you are facing as a person
who is starting out with programming.
Too often, you will find that instructors teach what they know (which is fair and
fine), but Andrei teaches what’s relevant and wanted by the industry. That
means that once you master the skills that Andrei teaches, you would be
prepared to jump work with startups and development teams in tech firms out
there. Sure, maybe you need a couple of weeks to adjust, but Andrei sets you up
for that. In fact, because of Andrei’s approach, you end up completing this
course with a solid set of practices that might even let you spot some
malpractices (i.e. non-sustainable) /errors from other developers. (I’m not
saying that will make your friends in your new office, but you get my drift. Also,
you might be wrong, but at least you know what and where to question.)

I know this because as a non-engineering Product person, I was able to work

with my development team much better despite only finishing half of the Web
Mastery course. (Yes, I will definitely head back to that for a revision after this
React Course.)

I’ve since left the digital agency I was with, and with an idea in mind, I have set
out to learn React from Andrei to make my dream come to life.

If you happen to chance upon this article and reach this sentence, thank you for
the support, and do say hi!

I think that’s all about it. I am ready to start.
