Basic Handling Rules

This guide is designed to help install bag filter housing properly. Improper handling or
installation can result in damage or pressure vessel failure.

• If bag filter housing is being stored prior to installation, leave them in their protective carton
until ready to install.

• Never roll or slide a pressure vessel on its side.

• Never drop a pressure vessel or allow hard impact or abrasion of the pressure vessel from
contact with walls, partitions, tools, or equipment.

Housing Installation – Single Bag Filter Housing

NOTE : Filter Housing are normally shipped without filter bag. Before putting filter housing in
service, be certain that the proper filter bag is installed.

Filter housing’s legs, with pre-drilled mounting holes, are provided for filter housing in place.
Noted that the inlet ports is higher than the outlet port. DO NOT install filter backwards.

Install drain valve at the outlet piping to the lowest point of the pipe.

Install inlet and outlet valves.

Install pressure gauges to determine inlet and outlet pressure.

Filter Bag Installation/ Replacement

Step 1 - Shut off inlet and outlet valves. Open vent valve to relieve pressure. Open drain valve to
fully drain the liquid inside filter housing.

Step 2 - When the filter housing is completely drained, loosen swing bolts & nuts.

Step 3 - Remove the bag press spring.

Step 4 - Inspect the bag filter for cuts or tears. If damaged, do not use.

Step 5 - Inspect the housing basket (strainer) to ensure that it is clean and free of burrs or other
damage that could interfere with proper seating of the bag filter's collar or the bag support.

Step 6 - Install the clean filter bag into the housing / basket /strainer with the bag filter’s ring on
top.

Step 7 - Put on bag press spring.

Step 8 - Replace the cover and position. Swing up all the bolts and tighten. Do not over tighten.

Step 9 – Open inlet valve and vent valve.

Step10 – When liquid comes out from vent valve, close the vent valve, open outlet valve and
filtration process is running.

*Attention should always be given to the O-rings and sealing surfaces, ensuring that they are clean and
undamaged.

*Swing Bolts cover closure - to avoid misalignment of the cover, tighten cover bolts in the sequence.

STARTING
With vent valve open, open the inlet valve and liquid slowly fill the filter housing. When a
continuous stream of liquid comes out from the vent valve : 1) close the vent valve, 2) close the
inlet valve, 3) check for leakage. If filter leaks, shut the inlet valve, open the vent valve to relieve
pressure, and re-tighten the swing bolt & nut. Repeat leakage check. Open the inlet and outlet
valves and filtration process is now in operation.

FILTER BAG LIFE

PFI filter bags have been designed do filter a wide range of fluids. The period at which filter bag
should be replaced can only be determined by actual experience in your system. However, it
is generally recommended that filter bag to be replaced when differential pressure across the
filter reaches 12 – 15 psi, or once per year whichever condition occurs first.

REPLACEMENT PARTS

Your PFI Master Distributor stocks replacement parts for your convenience. To order, specify
filter housing model, description of part, material and quantity required.
