(2) Scary Story

It was a hot summer day when my family and I were on our way back to Bahrain
after visiting our relatives in Saudi Arabia. My father was driving and my mother,
little sister and I were using our mobiles when the car started to slow down and
finally it stopped completely. My father realised that it was almost out of petrol.

My father decided to ask for help from any person who could pass by us. We were
lucky that one car stopped and they collected my father to get fuel. I had to wait in
the car with my mother and sister.

We were surrounded by corn fields from both sides. It was so frightening and we
stayed in the car. My sister saw something in the corn field next to us which was
moving towards us and she began to feel afraid. My mother was so frightened too.
I began to feel afraid and tried to start the car but in vain. I was so disappointed
because I could do nothing. I wished my father had not left us there alone.

We sat, silent and scared. What could be coming towards us in the corn field? We
could not move, and nobody spoke. Suddenly, somebody came out of the corn
filed. To our surprise, he was my father. He had to take a short cut through the corn
fields to come back quickly carrying a fuel jerrycan.

a factory. Write a description of the process, using the words and phrases in the picture.

There are certain steps that should be followed to make bars of milk chocolate
in a factory. In the following lines, I am going to present these steps which
need to be done correctly.
First of all, the beans are roasted at 135°C. Next, the beans are crushed and the
shells are removed. Following this, the inner parts of the beans are pressed and
the liquid chocolate is produced. Then milk and sugar are added. After this, the
mixture is poured into moulds and cooled down.
Finally, the bars of milk chocolate are wrapped in foil and paper for transport
everywhere/all over the world.

Using Social Media Apps for Learning

In the last few years using social media apps for learning has become one of
the issues people have become interested in. Yet, it has been one of the topics
they differ about. Some people think it is positive and has many advantages.
Others are against it and believe it has a lot of disadvantages.

On the one hand, people who support using social media apps inside the
classrooms have their own reasons. To start with, they say social media apps
can add excitement and fun to learning. In addition, they can make students
learn things easily and quickly. Furthermore, social media apps can make
students up-to-date with modern aspects of development.

On the other hand, people who are against using social media apps for
learning have their reasons. Firstly, not all students can have devices that
provide social media apps. Secondly, some schools cannot afford getting
devices for such apps. Finally, some students will not use them properly,
which affects learning badly.

All in all, despite the disadvantages social media apps have, they can be useful
in learning. Everything can be good or bad; positive or negative. It depends on
the way we use it.

(5) Writing a Report

Introduction
The aim of this report is to summarise the findings of a recent survey among
local residents in the town on plans to build a new factory. The data was
collected by questionnaire and interviews with 400 local residents between 4th
and 10th May.
Findings
Arguments Against
The majority of local residents (85%) said that they were against the plans for
the new factory. The main reason (mentioned by 80%) was that it will destroy
the town, and many families will have to move house. These people
sometimes have long connections with the area, going back hundreds of years.
Another important reason (mentioned by 69%) was that the factory will cause
noise and air pollution.
Arguments For
A minority of residents (15%), on the other hand, felt that a new factory could
bring benefits to the area, as it could create new jobs.
Alternative Ideas
However, 96% of all residents thought that a better idea was to build a new
factory in the industrial area or in the desert away from the town.
Conclusion
To sum up, there was a great deal of opposition to the plan for the new factory.
There was an almost universal feeling that the government should build the
factory away from the town. Because of the strong local feeling, we believe
that the government should consider other possible locations carefully.

(6) Formal Email

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to do your course in ‘English with art’ this summer. I am

interested in visiting Canada, and your school seems ideal for me. I have
found a lot of the information I need on your website, but I still have
some questions. I would be very grateful if you could answer them.

First of all, if I stayed for four weeks, how many teachers would I have?
Are there any exams at the end of the course? Could you tell me if I will
get a certificate from the school when I leave?

Concerning art, I am especially interested in drawing. I see that I can take

drawing lessons every afternoon, but does the cost include everything?
Do I need equipment? Also, is photography available in the evening after
7 p.m.?

As I mentioned, I am very interested in coming to Toronto, and I would

like to live with a local family. However, if I am not happy with the family,
can I change accommodation?

I hope you can answer my questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes
Noor Hassan
