Master Data in SAP PP-


The term “MASTER DATA” includes the data concerning Product Structure, Production processes, and
Available capacities. Parameters contained within the master data control the planning & execution
processes to a large extent, for this reason Master Data is of Essential Importance
The most important master data in regard With Production Planning are as follows ;

 Material master
 Bill of Material (BOM)
 Routing
 Work Center
 Production Version

Material Master Definition


Material master is a Central Element of Basic Data within production Logistics, This basic data has
manifold relationships to other important basic data. These relationships are important to establish
accurate & efficient Production planning.

Material Types
Finished material ( FERT)- Finished Material can also be described as final product , finished material is
the product on which numerous types of manufacturing / production processes are done
Semi-finished Material (HALB) - Semi- finished products can be procured externally and manufactured
in-house. They are then processed by the company. A material master record of this material type can
contain both purchasing and work scheduling data.
Raw materials (ROH) -Raw materials are always procured externally and then processed. A material
master record of this type contains purchasing data, but not sales data since they cannot be sold.
Spare parts (ERSA)- Spare parts are used to replace defective parts. They may be kept in stock. A
material master record of this material type can contain purchasing data.

Basic data contains the information that describes the material irrespective of organization for example weight ,
volume as well as basic unit of measure

MRP views enables us to define how to procure material and how to plan and control this
material within the production process

MRP -1 In MRP group Specific control


parameters can be created for

ND- for no planning
R1- for time phased planning

Procurement type is selected whether it is In house,

Special Procurement key is use to define procurement type
more precisely ex. Direct production, subcontracting, Stock
transfer from plant to plant

Production storage location is selected here if the


material is a component then it is the issuing
location or if the material is produced then it’s a
receiving storage location

Backflush is used for automatic issuing of goods


If component is backflushed then system posts for
withdrawal after the confirmation, and the
withdrawal is posted automatically

If the material is co product or bulk product


then these indicators are maintained

Days required for the in house production is maintained


here
The time required for receiving of material for
Safety stock is maintained to satisfy Schedule margin key is maintained if Inspection and placement into storage is maintained in
the unexpected high demand, this is we require any floats goods receipt processing time
useful to avoid shortfall of material in
the coverage period

MRP -3 Period indicator specifies how forecast


values the managed ex. In days, weeks
etc.

Suitable Strategy group is selected according to the


type of industry scenario whether it is MTS or MTO
Here in this case 10- Make to stock is used

Mixed MRP indicator is used if specific strategy


groups are used example
11- gross planning
70- planning at sub assembly level
74-sub assembly planning without final assembly

Consumption mode controls the direction on the


time axis for the way system consumes the
requirements
It is used in case of consumption based strategy
Example -40-planning with final assembly
Forward & backward Consumption period is
maintained according to consumption mode

Time required for product to be completely


available again is maintained here
It defines how system checks the availability if

MRP-4
Individual or collective requirements is selected
depending upon whether dependent requirements to
be planned individually or in group

Production version is maintained here

To authorize this material for repetitive mfg., this


indicator is activated

REM profile is maintained here which determines how


system deals with activities like Backflush, movement
types used for goods issue and goods receipt etc.

WORK SCHEDULING
Work scheduling view enables us to enter the data which is relevant to production execution
Apart from basic unit of measure , alternate unit of
issue and production unit can be maintained here

Plant specific material status is used to restrict the


usability of material for plant concern
Valid from is the date from which plant specific material
status is active

Production storage location is selected here if the


material is a component then it is the issuing
location or if the material is produced then it’s a
receiving storage location
If its maintained in MRP2 view then it is directly
fetched from there

Production version can be maintained from this


field as well as from the MRP 4 view

This indicator is activated to allow the material to


be produced in batches
