3. Introduction

Regular proper generator system maintenance is necessary to ensure that to standby and generate
electricity in case of commercial electricity fails to supply the data center. This maintenance shall be
conducted by the authorized personnel for all major equipment and system such as main engine,
alternator system, automatic controller unit, lubrication system, fuel system, filtering system, batteries
system, piping system, cooling and exhaust system and power quality for operation and infrastructure
reliability.

4. Objective
The objective of this standard operating procedure is to describe the measures & ways, role &
responsibility, precautions of the proper preventative maintenance of equipment and systems. It is also
aim for safe operation, improvement of the performance of the system, avoid unexpected failures. Load
and unload tests shall be carried out in conjunction with the drawings, specification, catalogs and its
settings.

5. Work Safety, Health & Environment

a) Lock out/Tag out Standard Operating Procedures


b) Safe work procedure
c) Adequate working space, ventilation and luminance
d) Only authorized persons shall supervise the test and handling instruments
e) Ensure all concerned personals use proper PPE.
f) Ensure adequate lighting & ventilation are provided in the working area.
g) Conduct Safety briefing

6. Quality control

1) The test shall be carried out in accordance with the following standards & regulations:
a) Myanmar National Building Code-2020
b) Myanmar Electricity Rules and Regulations
c) SS 535: 2018 Code of practice for installation, operation, maintenance, performance and
construction requirements of mains failure standby generating systems
d) Workplace Safety & Health Guideline
2) All materials and equipment shall be checked in accordance with specifications where possible.
3) All instruments shall be calibrated and within required accuracies
4) Instruments shall be used in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations (to be
calibrated if necessary)
5) Any professional/ authorized personnel? (if required)
6) Lockout/ Tag out procedure (if necessary)
7) Drawings (if have)

8. Safe Work Procedure


For Generator system maintenance, only trained maintenance engineers are allowed to perform
maintenance and who must be complied manufacture’s manual book for proper maintenance.

General
a. Necessary clearances for permit to work (POW) and use of testing instruments shall be
sought prior to commencement of works.
b. Check drawing, specifications and its settings.
c. Carry out visual inspection before the testing conducted.
d. Stand by spare parts if need to replace (engine oil, coolant, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter & etc.)

Rented Generator
• Check capacity
• Must have standard electricity output.
• Must have automatic start up system (if necessary).
• Check place and spacing for cables termination.
• Check engine oil, fuel, coolant, filters.
• Check & record overall status.

Existing Generator
• Check and record cranking, driving and running
hours.
• Check for leakage and condition (engine oil, fuel &
coolant) and advise top-up if necessary.
• Also check fuel supply and return piping for leakage.
• Check alarm on display
• Check control & charging panel
3 Check Environmental • Check condition of fan belt and charging alternator 30
belt. Advise to change when necessary and adjust
tension when necessary.
• Check charging alternator.
• Check battery electrolyte level or indicator point.
• Check general condition of conduit connectors,
switches and wiring insulation and terminations.
• Check air filters and clean if necessary.
• Verify operation of all lamp, meters and control.
• Check diesel fuel level in diesel tank. Advise to top-
up when necessary.
• Report fuel if less than 80% of tank capacity.

• Simulate failure/alarm signals on equipment.

Rental Generator
• Test run (About 5-10 minutes, with no load) before
electrical termination to load side panel.
• Remove existing genset output cables form load side
