Das internationale Schriftstück IEC 46C/621/CD:2003-08 „Multicore and symmetrical pair/quad cables
for broadband digital communications (high bit rate digital access Telecommunication Network) – Out-
side plant cables – Part 5: Sectional Specification for filled drop cables“ ist unverändert in diesen
deutschen Norm-Entwurf übernommen worden.

Dieser Norm-Entwurf enthält eine noch nicht autorisierte deutsche Übersetzung des Internationalen Norm-
Entwurfs [Committee Draft (CD)] IEC 46C/621/CD:2003 „Multicore and symmetrical pair/quad cables for
broadband digital communications (high bit rate digital access Telecommunication Network) - Outside plant
cables – Part 5: Sectional Specification for filled drop cables“.
Um Zweifelsfälle in der Übersetzung auszuschließen, ist die englische Originalfassung des CD entsprechend
der diesbezüglich durch die IEC erteilten Erlaubnis beigefügt. Die Nutzungsbedingungen für den deutschen
Text des Norm-Entwurfes gelten gleichermaßen auch für den mit aufgenommenen englischen IEC-Text.
Der Internationale Entwurf wurde vom SC 46C „Wires and symmetric cables“ der Internationalen
Elektrotechnischen Kommission (IEC) erarbeitet und als CD herausgegeben. Die IEC und das Europäische
Komitee für Elektrotechnische Normung (CENELEC) haben vereinbart, dass ein auf IEC-Ebene entstandener
Internationaler Norm-Entwurf im Schlussstadium [Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)] zeitgleich
(parallel) bei IEC und CENELEC zur Abstimmung gestellt wird, um eine Beschleunigung und Straffung der
Normungsarbeit zu erreichen.
Da der Abstimmungszeitraum für einen FDIS nur 2 Monate beträgt, und zum FDIS keine sachlichen
Stellungnahmen mehr abgegeben werden können, sondern nur noch eine „JA/NEIN“-Entscheidung möglich
ist, wobei eine „NEIN“-Entscheidung fundiert begründet werden muss, wird bereits der CD als Norm-Entwurf
veröffentlicht, um die Stellungnahmen aus der Öffentlichkeit noch vor der Abstimmung berücksichtigen zu
können.
Für den vorliegenden Norm-Entwurf ist das nationale Arbeitsgremium UK 412.1 „Symmetrische Kabel und
Leitungen, Drähte“ der DKE Deutsche Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik im DIN und
VDE zuständig.

1 Anwendungsbereich
Dieser Teil der IEC 62255 ist eine Bauartspezifikation für gefüllte Verbindungskabel mit Kupferleitern mit
massiver oder verzellter Isolation, mit einem metallischen Schirm über der Kabelseele und mit einem Mantel
aus einem thermoplastischen Werkstoff. Diese Kabel sind üblicherweise mit 2 - 6 Paaren verfügbar.
Die Kabel dieser Spezifikation unterscheiden sich durch die Bandbreite und werden durch eine maximale
Referenzfrequenz von 30 MHz, 60 MHz oder 100 MHz klassifiziert.
2 Normative Verweisungen
Die folgenden Referenzdokumente sind unabdingbar für die Anwendung dieses Dokumentes. Bei datierten
Verweisungen ist nur die zitierte Version anzuwenden. Bei datierten Verweisungen ist die letzte Ausgabe des
zitierten Dokumentes (einschliesslich irgendwelcher Ergänzungen) anzuwenden.

Die Auswahl der Materialien sowie die Konstruktion der Kabel muss für die vorgesehene Anwendung und die
Installation der Kabel geeignet sein.
Die Konstruktion der Kabel muss mit den Einzelheiten und mit den Abmessungen der entsprechenden
Bauartspezifikation übereinstimmen.
5.3 Leiter
Der Leiter muss ein massiver, weichgeglühter Leiter aus Kupfer sein und einen nominellen Durchmesser
zwischen 0,5 mm und 0,65 mm aufweisen. Verbindungen während der Herstellung des Drahtes sind
zulässig. Die Bruchkraft einer Verbindung muss mindestens 90 % der Bruchkraft des nicht verbundenen
Leiters aufweisen.

5.4 Isolation
Der Leiter muss mit einem geeigneten thermoplastischen Material isoliert werden.
Die Isolation kann massiv oder verzellt sein, oder aus einer Kombination beider Werkstoffe bestehen. Die
Isolation kann mit oder ohne Skinschicht aus massivem Material ausgeführt sein. Die Skinschicht kann aus
einem anderen Material bestehen als das Basismaterial.
Die Isolation muss gleichmäßig sein und eine Wandstärke aufweisen, mit der die festgelegten Anforderungen
an das fertige Kabel erfüllt werden.
Verbindungen in der isolierten Ader sind zulässig. Verbindungen müssen frei von Klumpen sein und
nachträglich mit einem nicht hygroskopischen dielektrischen Material isoliert werden.
Die nominelle Wandstärke der Isolation muss mit der Art der Anschlußtechnik für die Leiter übereinstimmen.
5.5 Farbcode
Der Farbcode ist nicht festgelegt und muss in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.
Die Farben müssen leicht zu identifizieren sein und vernünftigerweise mit den Standardfarben der IEC 60304
übereinstimmen.
5.6 Kabelelement
Ein Kabelelement muss ein verseiltes Paar oder ein Vierer sein.
Die Kabelelemente müssen mit der geforderten Anzahl von Paare zu einer Anzahl von Untereinheiten oder
Einheiten zu einer runden Verseilstruktur geformt werden.
Die Kabelseele kann mit einer schützenden Lage(n) eines nicht hygroskopischen Materials bewickelt werden.
5.8 Füllmassen
Die Kabelseele und und die Oberflächen der Geflechte müssen mit einem geeigneten Material gefüllt werden,
welches das Eindringen von Wasser verhindert. Beispiele geeigneter Materialien sind:
Die Seele des Kabels muss entweder mit einem Aluminiumband geschirmt sein, welches auf mindestens
einer Seite mit einem Material aus Kunststoff beschichtet ist, oder mit einem Stahlband. Die minimale Dicke
des Aluminiums darf nicht weniger als 0,15 mm betragen. Die minimale Dicke des Stahlbandes muss
mindestens 0,11 mm betragen. Die minimale elektrische Leitfähigkeit des Stahlbandes darf nicht weniger als
28 % IACS betragen.
Das Band kann flach oder gewellt aufgebracht werden. Die Kanten des Bandes müssen überlappen. Wenn
das Band flach aufgebracht wird, müssen die Kanten an der Überlappungsstelle und mit dem Mantel verklebt
werden.

5.10 Mantel
Das Mantelmaterial muss aus einem geeigneten thermoplastischen Werkstoff bestehen und über dem
Schirm oder der Armierung aufgebracht werden. Beispiele geeigneter Polyethylene sind:
Ein Zwischenmantel aus Polyethylen kann zwischen der Kabelseele und dem Schirm aus Aluminium
aufgebracht werden.
5.11 Reißfaden
Ein Reißfaden ist zulässig. Wenn vorhanden, darf der Reissfaden nicht hygroskopisch sein und er darf keine
Feuchtigkeit weiterleiten.
5.13 Zugelemente

5.14 Identifikation
Der Außenmantel einer jeden Kabellänge muss dauerhaft markiert werden, mit folgender Information:
Die Methode der Verpackung ist nicht spezifiziert, muss aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation
festgelegt sein.
In diesem Abschnitt sind die Eigenschaften und die minimalen Anforderungen an ein Kabel nach dieser
Spezifikation aufgelistet. Die Prüfverfahren müssen mit Abschnitt 5 der IEC 62255-1 übereinstimmen. Eine
Bauartspezifikation kann erstellt werden, um ein bestimmtes Produkt sowie sein Leistungsumfang zu
beschreiben, (siehe Abschnitt 7).
Die Prüfungen sind an Kabellängen von nicht weniger als 100 m durchzuführen, wenn nicht anders
festgelegt.

6.2.1 Leiterwiderstand
Der elektrische Widerstand irgendeines Leiters, der bei einer Temperatur von 20 °C gemessen oder zu dieser
Temperatur korrigiert wurde, darf die Werte nach Tabelle 1 nicht überschreiten.

6.2.2 Widerstandsunsymmetrie
Die Widerstandsunsymmetrie eines Paares darf den Wert von 2 % nicht überschreiten.
6.2.3 Spannungsfestigkeit
Die Isolation zwischen jedem Leiter und allen anderen Leitern in dem fertigen Kabel und zwischen allen
Leitern und dem Schirm muss die Prüfung der Spannungsfestigkeit bestehen. Es gibt zwei
Auswahlmöglichkeiten bezüglich der geforderten Prüfspannung. Die anzuwendende Auswahlmöglichkeit ist
in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation anzugeben.
Die Isolation zwischen jedem Leiter und allen anderen Leitern des fertigen Kabels muss die Prüfung mit den
Gleichspannungen nach Tabelle 2 mit einer Prüfdauer von 3 s bestehen.

Die dielektrischen Werkstoffe zwischen allen Leitern und dem Schirm aus Aluminium müssen einer
Gleichspannung von 15 000 V bei massiver Isolation und 10 000 V bei verzellter Isolation standhalten. Die
Prüfdauer beträgt 3 s.
Die Isolation zwischen jedem Leiter und allen anderen Leitern und zwischen allen Leitern und dem Schirm
aus Aluminium des fertigen Kabels muss die Prüfung mit den Gleichspannungen und mit einer Prüfdauer
nach Tabelle 3 bestehen.

ANMERKUNG Eine Wechselspannung mit Vgleichspg 2 kann für die Prüfung benutzt werden
6.2.4 Isolationswiderstand
– Leiter/Leiter;
– Leiter/Schirm.
Der minimale Isolationswiderstand bei 20 °C darf nicht weniger als 1 500 MΩ ⋅ km betragen.
6.2.5 Betriebskapazität
Die durchschnittliche Betriebskapazität darf den Wert von 58 nF/km nicht überschreiten.
Die maximale Kapazitätsunsymmetrie von Paar zu Paar zwischen irgendwelchen zwei Paaren des fertigen
Kabels den Wert von 250 pF/500 m nicht überschreiten.
Die Kapazitätsunsymmetrie des Paares zur Erde irgendeines Paares darf den Wert von 1 600 pF/km nicht
überschreiten.
Der maximale Gleichstromwiderstand des Schirms (gemessen bei 20 °C oder korrigiert zu 20 °C), darf den
Wert nach 33 Ω/km nicht überschreiten.
Alle Prüfungen sind an einer Länge von 100 m durchzuführen, wenn nicht anders festgelegt.
ANMERKUNG Bei Kabeln mit einer Referenzfrequenz unterhalb von 30 MHz können in Abstimmung mit dem
Anwender die Übertragungseigenschaften des 30 MHz-Kabels angegeben werden.
6.3.1.1 Ausbreitungsgeschwindigkeit
Die minimale Ausbreitungsgeschwindigkeit für alle Frequenzen zwischen 1 MHz und der maximal
festgelegten Frequenz eines jeden Paares des Kabels darf nicht kleiner als 0,58 c sein, (mit c als
Geschwindigkeit des Lichtes im Vakuum).

Für Kabel mit einer oberen Referenzfrequenz von 100 MHz darf die maximale differentielle
Phasenverzögerung (delay skew) zwischen irgendwelchen Paarkombinationen einer Einheit den Wert von
48 ns/100 m nicht überschreiten.
6.3.2 Dämpfung
Die maximale Dämpfung α irgendeines Paares im Frequenzbereich von 1 MHz bis zur maximal festgelegten
Frequenz darf den Wert, der sich mit Gleichung (2) ergibt, wenn die korrespondierenden Konstanten der
Tabelle 4 eingesetzt werden, nicht überschreiten.

6.3.3 Unsymmetriedämpfung
Die minimale Unsymmetriedämpfung am nahen Ende, (Tranverse Conversion Loss, TCL), ist nicht
spezifiziert, muss aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation festgelegt werden.
Der schlechteste Wert der Leistungssumme der Nahnebensprechdämpfung, (PSNEXT), eines jeden Paares
im Frequenzbereich von 1 MHz bis zur höchsten, festgelegten Frequenz darf nicht kleiner sein, als der Wert
der sich nach Gleichung (3) ergibt.
Dabei ist f die Frequenz in MHz und; der korrespondierende Wert des PSNEXT(1) nach Tabelle 5
einzusetzen.

6.3.6 Wellenwiderstand
Der Wellenwiderstand eines jeden Paares im Frequenzbereich von 1 MHz bis zur höchsten, festgelegten
Frequenz muss N ± 15 % betragen; wobei N den nominellen Wert darstellt und allgemein den Wert von 100,
120 oder 135 Ω aufweist.
Die minimale Rückflussdämpfung eines jeden Paares im Frequenzbereich von 1 MHz bis zur höchsten,
festgelegten Frequenz darf nicht kleiner sein als die Werte nach der folgenden Tabelle 7.

6.3.8 Schirmdämpfung
Die Schirmdämpfung ist nicht festgelegt, kann aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben
werden.
6.3.9 Kopplungsdämpfung
Die Kopplungsdämpfung ist nicht festgelegt, kann aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben
werden.
6.4.1 Abmessungen
Die nominelle Wandstärke des Mantels und der nominelle Gesamtdurchmesser Mantels sind nicht festgelegt,
müssen aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.
Die minimale Dehnung beim Bruch der Isolierung muss 300 % betragen.
Die minimale Dehnung beim Bruch des Mantels muss 350 % bei einem Polyethylen-Mantel und 200 % bei
einem PVC-Mantel betragen.
Wenn der Schirm aus Aluminium mit dem Polyethylen-Mantel verklebt ist, darf die Kraft, die erforderlich ist,
um das Aluminium vom Polyethylen sowie vom Aluminium selbst an der Überlappungsstelle abzuschälen,
nicht weniger als 0,8 N/mm der Dicke betragen.
Wenn der Schirm aus Aluminium oder die Armierung aus Stahl nicht mit dem Polyethylen-Mantel verklebt ist,
darf die Kraft, die erforderlich ist, um ein Gleiten zwischen dem Mantel und dem darunterliegenden
Metallband zu bewirken, nicht weniger als 1,4 N/mm des Umfanges betragen. Der Umfang ergibt sich dabei
durch den Durchmesser des unter dem Mantel aufgebrachten Metallbandes.
Der Mantel muss einem Sparktest mit einer Prüfspannung von mindestens 8 kV Wechselspannung oder
12 kV Gleichspannung standhalten.
Die Prüfung der Querdruckfestigkeit des Kabels ist nicht festgelegt, kann aber in der entsprechenden
Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.

6.4.10 Stossprüfung
Bei der Prüfung bei –20 °C ± 2 °C mit einem Gewicht von 0,45 kg, welches aus einer Höhe von 1 m
fallengelassen wird, darf kein Riss im Mantel auftreten.
Das Biegen des Kabels unter Zugbelastung ist nicht festgelegt, kann aber in der entsprechenden
Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.
Nicht anzuwenden.
Die Zugfestigkeit des Kabels muss bei Kabeln mit einem Schirm aus Aluminium mindestens 650 N betragen;
bei Kabeln mit einem CCS-Schirm muss die Zugfestigkeit mindestens 1100 N betragen. Der Bruch ist dabei
definiert als der Unterbrechung des elektrischen Durchgangs irgendeines Leiters oder des Schirms.
6.5 Umweltprüfverfahren
Die minimale Induktionszeit eines jeden Paares des fertigen Kabels darf bei massiver Isolation nicht weniger
als 40 Minuten und bei verzellter Isolation nicht weniger als 60 Minuten betragen.
Anforderungen an die Wickelprüfung der Isolierung nach thermischer Alterung sind nicht festgelegt, können
aber in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.
Bei der Biegeprüfung des isolierten Leiters bei –40 °C ± 2 °C und einem Durchmesser des Prüfdornes, der
dem dreifachen Aussendurchmesser des isolierten Leiters entspricht, dürfen keine Brüche in der Isolierung
auftreten.
Die Dehnung beim Bruch des Mantels nach Alterung darf nicht weniger als 50 % des nicht gealterten
Materials betragen.
Die Zugfestigkeit des Mantels nach Alterung darf nicht weniger als 70 % des nicht gealterten Materials
betragen.

Wenn in der entsprechenden Bauartspezifikation angegeben, muss die Prüfung in Übereinstimmung mit der
Fachgrundspezifikation durchgeführt werden.
Bei der Prüftemperatur darf nach 24 Stunden nicht mehr als 0,5 g Material vom Kabelmuster geflossen sein.
Die Prüftemperatur muss entweder 70 ± 1 °C oder 80 ± 1 °C betragen und muss in der entsprechenden
Bauartspezifikation angegeben werden.
6.5.11.1 Kompatibilität der Komponenten des Kabels mit Füllmassen und Feuchtesperren
Die Isolation und der Mantel müssen ein Mindestmass von 85 % des Wertes der ungealterten Zugfestigkeit
und der Dehnung bewahren. Es darf keine Ablösung der Beschichtungen vom Metall, vom Schirm oder von
der Armierung auftreten, wenn vorhanden.
6.5.11.2 Aufnahme und Weiterleiten von Flüssigkeiten von Bindern, Wicklungen und Reissfäden
Die Werkstoffe werden nicht als Docht betrachtet, wenn Flüssigkeiten nicht mehr als 75 mm in 6 Stunden
weitergeleitet werden.
Die Werkstoffe werden als nicht hygroskopisch betrachtet, wenn die Gewichtszunahme nicht mehr als 1 % in
drei Stunden beträgt.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in
addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,

1 Scope
This part of IEC 62255 is a sectional specification which is applicable to filled drop cables
having a metallic screen over the cable core, a thermoplastic jacket, copper conductors, and
solid or cellular insulation. These cables are typically available in 2-6 pair.
These cables are intended primarily for direct burial in the ground.
The cables covered by this specification are differentiated by bandwidth and are classified by
having a maximum reference frequency of 30, 60, or 100 MHz.
2 Normative references

4 Installation considerations
The choice of materials and cable construction shall be suitable for the intended application
and method of installation of the cable.

The cable construction shall be in accordance with the materials, dimensions, and assembly
details given in the relevant detail specification.
5.3 Conductor
The conductor shall be a solid annealed copper conductor having a diameter between 0,5 mm
and 0,65 mm. Factory joints are permitted. The tensile strength of a joint shall not be less than
90 % of that of an unjointed conductor.
5.4 Insulation
The type of the conductor insulation shall be solid or cellular or any combination thereof. The
insulation may be made with or without a solid dielectric skin. The skin material may be
different than the base material. Other multi-layer systems may be used.
The insulation shall be continuous and shall have a thickness such that the finished cable
meets the specified requirements.
Joints in the insulated conductor are allowed. Joints shall be free from lumps and reinsulated
with a non-hygroscopic dielectric material.
The nominal thickness shall be compatible with the method conductor termination.
The colour code of the insulation is not specified but shall be indicated in the relevant detail
specification. The colours shall be readily identifiable and shall correspond reasonably with the
standard colours shown in IEC 60304.
The core of the cable and the sheath interfaces shall be filled with a suitable water-blocking
material. Examples of suitable materials are:
The material used shall be compatible with the cable components in which it is in contact.

The tape may be applied flat or corrugated. The edges of the tape shall overlap. If applied
flat, the tape shall bond to the jacket and to itself at the overlap.
5.10 Sheath
The sheath shall consist of a suitable thermoplastic material applied over the screen or armour.

5.11 Rip-cord
A rip-cord(s) may be provided. When present, the rip-cord shall be non-hygroscopic and non-
wicking.

5.14 Identification
The outer sheath of each length of cable shall be durably marked with the following

This subclause lists the characteristics and minimum requirements of a cable complying with
this specification. Test methods shall be in accordance with Clause 5 of IEC 62255-1. A detail
specification may be prepared to identify a specific product and its performance capabilities
(see Clause7).
The tests shall be carried out on a cable length of not less than 100 m, unless otherwise
specified.

The insulation between each conductor and all other conductors in the finished cable and
between all the conductors and the screen shall withstand a dielectric strength test. Two
options are given depending on the level of voltage withstand capabilities required. The option
to be used shall be indicated in the relevant detail specification.
The insulation between each conductor and all other conductors in the finished cable shall be
the d.c. voltages given in Table 2 when tested for 3 s.
The dielectric materials between all conductors and the aluminium screen shall withstand
15 000 Vd.c. when the insulation is solid and 10 000 Vd.c. when the insulation is cellular. The
test time shall be 3 seconds.

The insulation between each conductor and all other conductors and between all the
conductors and the aluminium screen in the finished cable shall be the d.c. voltages given in
Table 3 depending on the duration of the test.

The minimum insulation resistance at 20 ° C shall not be less than 1500 MΩ⋅ km.
The maximum capacitance unbalance pair to pair between any two pairs in the finished cable
shall not exceed 250 pF/500 m.
The maximum capacitance unbalance pair to ground of any pair shall not exceed 1 600 pF/km.
The maximum d.c. resistance of the screen when measured at or corrected to 20 ° C shall not
exceed 33 Ω /km.
All the tests shall be carried out on a cable length of 100 m unless otherwise specified.
NOTE By agreement with the user, cables having a maximum referenced frequency below 30 MHz may be specified
following the transmission requirements for the 30 MHz cables.
The minimum velocity of propagation of any pair shall not be less than 0,58 c (where c is the
speed of light in a vacuum) for all frequencies between 1 MHz and the maximum referenced
frequency.

For cables having a maximum referenced frequency of 100 MHz, the differential phase delay
(delay skew) shall not exceed 48 ns/100 m.
6.3.2 Attenuation
The maximum attenuation α of any pair in the frequency range from 1,0 to the maximum
referenced frequency shall not exceed the value obtained from equation (2) using the
corresponding values of the constants given in the following table 4.

The minimum unbalance attenuation near-end (transverse conversion loss or TCL) is not
specified but may be indicated in the relevant detail specification.
The worst pair power sum near-end crosstalk, PSNEXT, of any pair in the frequency range
1 MHz to the maximum referenced frequency shall not be less than the values obtained from
equation (3)

The worst pair power sum equal level far end crosstalk, PSELFEXT, of any pair in the
frequency range 1 MHz to the maximum referenced frequency shall not be less than the values
obtained from equation (4).

The characteristic impedance of any pair in the frequency range of 1 MHz to the maximum
referenced frequency shall be N ± 15 % where N is the nominal value and is generally either
100, 120, or 135 Ω.
The minimum return loss (RL) of any pair in the frequency range of 1 MHz to the maximum
referenced frequency shall not be less than the values, in dB, obtained from the following
Table 7.
Screening attenuation is not specified but may be indicated in the relevant detail specification.
Coupling attenuation is not specified but may be indicated in the relevant detail specification.

The nominal thickness of the sheath and the nominal overall diameter of the sheath are not
specified, but shall be indicated in the relevant detail specification.
The minimum elongation at break of the insulation shall not be less than 300 %.
The minimum tensile strength at break of the sheath shall not be less than 10 MPa.
When the aluminium screen is bonded to the polyethylene jacket, the force required to peel the
aluminium from the polyethylene and from itself at the overlap shall not be less than 0,8 N/mm
width.
The sheath shall withstand a spark test voltage of at least 8 kV r.m.s. or 12 kV d.c.
The crush test of the cable is not specified but may be indicated in the relevant detail
specification.
There shall be no cracking on the sheath when tested at –20 ± 2 °C using a 0,45 kg weight
dropped from a height of 1 m.
The bending under tension requirements are not specified but may be indicated in the relevant
detail specification.

The minimum oxidative induction time of any pair in the finished cable shall not be less than
40 min for solid insulation and 60 minutes for cellular insulation.
Requirements for the wrapping test of insulation after thermal ageing are not specified but may
be indicated in the relevant detail specification.
The insulation shall not crack when tested at – 40 ± 2 °C using a mandrel diameter equal to
three times the outside diameter of the insulated conductor.
The tensile strength at break shall not be less than 70 % of the un-aged value.
Not applicable.
When indicated in the relevant detail specification, the test shall be performed in accordance
with the generic specification .
6.5.11.1 Compatibility of the cable components with the filling and flooding compounds
The insulation and jacket shall retain a minimum of 85 % of their unaged tensile strength and
elongation. There shall be no delamination of the coating, when present, from the metal
screen .
The materials shall be considered non-wicking if water does not wick by more than 75 mm in
6 h.
The materials shall be considered non-hygroscopic if the gain in weight does not exceed 1 % in
three hours.
The blank detail specification for cables described in this specification is published as
IEC 62255-5-1 and should be used to identify a specific product.
When completing the detail specification, the following information shall be supplied:
a) conductor size;
b) number of elements;
c) cable construction details;
d) maximum referenced frequency;
e) nominal impedance.
