A Boy Hero
It was raining so hard. Streets in San Fernando City were heavily flooded due to clogged drainage,
high tide, and garbage everywhere. Lito was worried while watching some stranded vehicles
outside the window. On board were mostly students and some others who were supposed to go to
their workplace. In a sudden, he heard a loud scream! “Help! Help! Please, anybody help!” a
middle aged woman was shouting in great terror while helplessly watching a drowning little boy.
In an instance, Lito immediately dove into the water. He swam as fast as he could but the flow of
water was heavily opposing his direction yet still he tried and tried gasping for breath. His
determination kept him to move on and at long last, he was almost there to save the young innocent
boy of about 2 to 3 years old. There it was! Lito was indeed a hero. He saved the boy! He was not
only a champion swimmer during athletic meets, but also a champion of bravery in times most
needed.

Don Juan and his wife Namangan lived in Nalbuan, now part of La Union in the northern part of
the Philippines. They had a son named Lam-ang. Before Lam-ang was born, Don Juan went to the
mountains in order to punish a group of their Igorot enemies. While he was away, his son Lam-ang was

The Forgiving Crocodile
The Forgiving Crocodile talks about a family of crocodile and an old woman. The old woman
asked favor from the mother crocodile, Buwahaya, to spare her life and in return, she would take care of her two
little babies. However, Aling Sita did not value their agreement. She sat all day ignoring the two little crocodiles.
Buhawaya discovered what Aling Sita has been doing, so she gathered poisonous snakes for Aling Sita instead of
delicious food and gave them to her. Aling Sita was frightened and asked for forgiveness from what she’s done.
From then on, Aling Sita took good care of Buhawaya’s babies.

I Can Be A Star

“I can do this”. This is my motto whenever things get hard because I believe that God is with me. “Come, let’s
practice”, I called my friend Armand one late afternoon after our English class. He called other participants to proceed
to the school gymnasium. Each one took his assigned place and started reciting the first stanza of the poem. Then,
the second and so on until we successfully finished reciting the entire piece. “Good job, children! You can win this,”
Miss Villanueva, our English teacher commented.
I could still recall one of the most challenging moments in my life three years ago when I got sick of dengue.
Nobody could tell that I can survive that time. But because I offered everything to God, I have nothing to worry. That
moment made me realize that only in His hands can I be sure that I can be a star and will continue to shine even in
the midst of darkness.
39. If given a chance to create or develop the parts of the story, “I Can Be a Star”, how would it
be? Why?
