Introductory Letter to Parents or Guardians:

Dear Parents or Guardians,

Let me introduce myself. I am a graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in
Dance Performance and Choreography, certified in Progressing Ballet Technique, and I’ve been teaching
dance and performing professionally for 9 years. I am looking forward to a new school term as your
child’s teacher and believe this year will be an exciting time for all of us. We will study various dance
techniques, composition, history, and anatomy in preparation for the successful completion of the state’s
standards in coursework. I have planned many activities throughout the course of the year that are
designed to help your child succeed artistically as well as academically, not only this year but also in the
future to come.

Both students and parents or guardians are naturally curious about the amount and types of homework
to be assigned this term as well as grading scale and procedures. There will be potential homework
assignments on some nights, but most of the work will be done in class. You should expect to see your
child spending at least 30 minutes reviewing, working on projects, or studying material given in class that
day or on choreography. A copy of the weekly schedule will be given to each student to keep in his or
her binder/agenda as well as posted on our class website. In terms of grading, I will be grading on a 5-
point scale verses a 100-value scale for mastery of required skills from the state of Texas. A copy of
expectations and procedures will be sent home with your child with more detailed information.

When you have any questions or wish to talk with me about your child, please feel free to email me at
lia.karagianopoulos@gpisd.org or call me at school. Our number is 972-237-5603.

I am looking forward to working with my new students this year. I am also looking forward to meeting
you and working with you to help your child grow and succeed.

Best wishes,

Lia Karagianopoulos
