Describe for the tourist arrivals to Bali as shown in Fig. 1.

 The number of tourist arrivals to Bali is fluctuating and has a slight overall
increase from 2000 to 2005.
 There was a sharpest/largest decrease of about 130,000 tourists in 2002.
 The tourist arrivals increased sharply by about 120,000 tourists in 2 years, from
2002 to 2004.
 However, there was a dip/decrease in tourists by about 30,000 tourists in 2003
and another sharp decrease of about 45,000 tourists in 2004.

 Generally increasing from 2000 to 2009


 However, tourist arrivals experienced a sharp drop by 1.3 million from 2002 and 2003
 Tourist arrivals steadily increased from 2003 to 2007 by 4 million
 Tourist arrivals see the largest increase from 2004 to 2007 by 2million
 Tourist arrivals see the sharpest increase of 2million within a year, between year 2004-
2004.
 Tourist arrivals faced a gradual fall from 2007 to 2009 by 0.6 million

 Outbreak of SARS in November 2002. SARS between 2002 and 2003. People were
afraid to travel at as SARS is air-borned and there is a huge chance of being infected.
Cancellation of MICE events during the SARS period as people are worried about being
infected by the diseases.
 The increase in tourist arrival from 2003 to 2007 is due to the an increase in attactions in
Singapore and that the tourism board promoted the attractions overseas. Hence, with an
increase knowledge of Singapore’s new attractions, it leads to an increase
 Global financial crisis from 2007 to 2011. Less people willing to travel to curb their
spending/less disposable income/etc, hence a decline.
3. Figure 3 shows the top 10 countries by international tourist arrivals, in
millions.

Compare the tourist arrival across the 10 countries from 1995 to 2012. [3]

 In general, from 1995 to 2012, there is an increase in tourist arrival in all the 10
countries. The largest increase from 1995 to 2012 is China of 37.7 milllion tourist
arrival./Malaysia has the largest percentage increase of 233% /largest tourist
arrivals of more than 3 times increase.
 From year 2000 to year 2005, all countries show an increase in tourist arrival
except for the USA, France and Italy. USA shows a small decrease by 2million
while Italy show a largest decline of 4.7million during that period of time.
 From 2000-2005, the decline in USA’s tourist arrival of 2million, while the
increase in Spain’s tourist’s arrival of 9.5million, caused Spain to overtake the
USA in becoming the country with the highest number of tourist arrival.
 From 2005 to 2010, all countries show an increase except Spain which shows a
slight decline of 3.2million.

With reference to Fig. 4, describe the changes in international tourism. [4]

 There is an overall increase in tourism in all parts of the world from 1950 to 2012
(general trend).
 From 1950-2012, Europe experienced the steepest increase in tourism by about
______million tourist arrivals (or _____________% increase).
 Both Africa and Middle East experienced the smallest increase in tourism. For
example, Africa increased in tourism by only 30million tourist arrivals (or 30%
increase) from 1950 to 2012.
 America and Europe remains the highest in terms of international tourist arrivals
throughout from 1950 to 2003. For example, America and Europe had the highest
percentage of tourists, at 61% of overall number in 2012. OR Europe had
400million tourists, while America had the second highest number of 180million
tourists in 2003.
 Asia and Pacific overtook America to become the second highest number of
tourist arrivals from 2003 onwards. They experienced a dramatic increase of
70million tourists (or 47% increase) from 2003 to 2012.

With reference to the Fig. 5, describe the changes in Singapore’s visitor arrivals between
May 2009 and May 2010. [4]

 There has been an overall increase in visitor arrivals from May 2009 to May 2010
(general trend).
 There were three time periods which showed a decrease in tourist arrivals. For
example, from July 2009 to September 2009, where tourist arrivals dropped by
83,000 visitors (9.4% decrease), from October 2009 to November 2009, where
tourist arrivals fell by 15,000 visitors (or 1.8% decrease) and from December
2009 to February 2010, where tourist arrivals declined by 115,000 visitors (or
11.8% decrease).
 The smallest increase in the number of visitors occurred from April 2010 to May
2010, where there was an increase of only 7,000 visitors (0.75% increase).
 There was a sharp increase in the number of visitors from November 2009 to
December 2009, at 142,000 visitors (17.1% increase).
 The time period from December 2009 to February 2010 saw the largest decrease
in tourist arrivals, by 115,000 visitors (or 11.8% decrease).
 The time period from October 2009 to November 2009 saw the smallest
decrease in tourist arrivals, by 15,000 visitors (or 1.8% decrease).
