(Private Security Agency Law)

MODULE 3 : The 2003 Revised Rules and Regulations Implementing Republic Act No. 5487 As Amended

(Rule V to VIII)

TOPIC 2 : Rule VIII (Uniform, Equipment and Paraphernalia

A. Preliminaries
SECTION 8. Basic Equipment.

- For security guards, wearing a security

guard uniform at work is compulsory. That's
the way to recognize and identify each
other when working at security sites. The
customers can tell where the security guard
is working at through their security guard
uniform

- A baton (also truncheon, nightstick, billy

club, billystick, cosh, lathi, or simply stick) is
a roughly cylindrical club made of wood,
rubber, plastic, or metal. It is carried as a
compliance tool and defensive weapon by
law-enforcement officers, correctional
staff, security guards and military
personnel.
- Whistles are a good deterrent to advise unauthorized
persons approaching a closed area that they should turn
back. Whistles require no maintenance, are water and
weather resistant, and are almost 100% reliable in all
conditions.

- A pen is a common writing instrument that applies ink to a

surface, usually paper, for writing or drawing.

- They have to remember any aspect of a completed guard

tour and the actions that were held, and it is impossible to
take place by memory. So, security officers will need to
use a notepad and a pen to write reports about their daily
actions or/and any observations they might have
- Guards use flashlights whenever it gets too dark to see or there are insufficient lighting
sources. A flashlight is an essential piece of equipment to have when patrolling dark areas or
investigating suspicious activity. It's also good for looking into dark corners or under vehicles
without having to get too close.

- First aid may need to be administered when the

security guard gets an injury during the course of
duty. It can also be handy when assisting an injured
member of the public for a minor injury or while
waiting for medical personnel to arrive on the
scene.

- It can help prevent violent incidents and protect

individuals from harm. It can also deter individuals
from attempting to bring weapons into the area, as
they know they will be detected. Additionally, it
can provide peace of mind for those in the area,
knowing that measures are in place to ensure their
safety.

SECTION 9. Other Equipment.

- Not all security guards carry or use handcuffs, but

some do. If and when they do have handcuffs,
they'd choose to use them in order to detain a
person so that the police can deal with them.
They'd also use handcuffs to put an out-of-control
person under control.

- Security metal detectors play an important part in

ensuring people are safe by detecting concealed
weapons such as guns or knives. They are also useful in detecting foil wrapped drugs and
precious metals associated with jewellery or antiques theft.

Radio communication enables security teams to

communicate quickly and efficiently, allowing the
immediate - - activation of a safety alert message for all
staff in hazardous situations. Security staff relies on
them to communicate with other team members and
raise security alerts.

Stun guns and TASERs use a sharp electric shock to

deter and subdue attackers, making them an
effective alternative to traditional firearms. In
particular, stun guns are reusable, affordable, and
compact.

- The vest may come in a soft form, as worn by many police

officers, prison guards, security guards, and some private
citizens, used to protect against stabbing attacks or light
projectiles, or hard form, using metallic or para-aramid
components.

- K9 units have the ability to track down

missing persons and illegal substances

them know when they are close to a target and which direction a target may be.
