Very short answer type questions:
1.Can there be motion in two dimensions with acceleration in only one dimension?
2.Is it true that a body is always at rest in a frame that is fixed to the body itself?
3.Tell under what condition a body moving with uniform velocity can be in equilibrium?
4.What does the speedometer records: the average speed or the instantaneous speed?.
5.Can an object be accelerated without speeding up or slowing down? Give examples.
Short answer type-I questions:
6.Is it possible to have the rate of change of velocity constant while the velocity itself changes both in
magnitude and direction? Give an example.
7.What is common between the two graphs shown in figs, (a) and (b)?

8.The displacement of a body is zero. Is the distance covered by it is necessarily zero?.

9.How many-dimensional motion does the following have?

(a) Train moving fast on its track.
(b) A lizard moving on a wall in a room.
(c) Kite flying in the sky.
(d) Bee flying in a closed room.

10.Derive position-time relation by using graph of uniformly accelerated motion.

11. On a 60km straight road, a bus travels the first 30 km with a uniform speed of 30 kmh -1. How fast must
the bus travel the next 30 km so as to have average speed of 40 kmh -1 for the entire trip?
12. A car is moving along x-axis. As shown in figure it moves from 0 to P in 18 seconds and return from P to Q

in 6 second. What are the average velocity and average speed of the car in going from
(i) O to P (ii) o to P and back to Q

P
13. The displacement x of a particle varies with time as x = 4t 2-15t + 25. Find the position, velocity and
acceleration of the particle at t = 0.
14. A ball thrown vertically upwards with a speed of 19.6 ms-1 from the top of a tower returns to the earth in
6s. Find the height of the tower (g = 9.8 m/s2)
15. The V-t graphs of two objects make angle 30° and 60° with the time axis. Find the ratio of their
accelerations.

16. Assertion-Reason questions:

Directions: These questions consist of two statements, each printed as Assertion and Reason.
While answering these questions, you are required to choose any one of the following four
responses.
(a) If both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the
Assertion.
(b) If both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not a correct explanation of the
Assertion.
(c) If the Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
(d) If both the Assertion and Reason are incorrect.

1.Assertion          :           Two balls of different masses are thrown vertically upward with same speed.
They will pass through their point of projection in the downward direction with the same speed.
Reason            :   The maximum height and downward velocity attained at the point of projection are
independent of the mass of the ball.
   2.       Assertion          :           If the displacement of the body is zero, the distance covered by it may
not be zero.
Reason            :           Displacement is a vector quantity and distance is a scalar quantity.

3.Assertion          :           The average velocity of the object over an interval of time is either smaller
than or equal to the average speed of the object over the same interval.
Reason            :           Velocity is a vector quantity and speed is a scalar quantity.

.
4.Assertion          :           An object can have constant speed but variable velocity.
Reason            :           Speed is a scalar but velocity is a vector quantity.

.
5.Assertion          :           The speed of a body can be negative.
Reason            :           If the body is moving in the opposite direction of positive motion, then its speed
is negative.

6.Assertion          :           The position-time graph of a uniform motion in one dimension of a body can
have negative slope.
Reason            :           When the speed of body decreases with time, the position-time graph of the
moving body has negative slope.

7.Assertion          :           A positive acceleration of a body can be associated with a ?slowing down? of
the body.
Reason            :           Acceleration is a vector quantity.

8.Assertion          :           When a body is subjected to a uniform acceleration, it always move in a
straight line.
Reason            :           Straight line motion is the natural tendency of the body.

9.Assertion          :           Distance-time graph of the motion of a body having uniformly accelerated
motion is a straight line inclined to the time axis.
Reason            :           Distance travelled by a body having uniformly accelerated motion is directly
proportional to the square of the time taken.
10.Assertion          :           A body having non-zero acceleration can have a constant velocity. Reason
:           Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.
