LN : MOTION Revision Worksheet
Learning Objective: My learner will be able to infer the result from the given data.
Synopsis:
I Answer the following
1) What does each graph represent?

Answer a) Rest
b) uniform motion
c) Deceleration
d) uniform velocity.
2) Distinguish between distance and displacement.
Answer
Distance Displacement
 It is the actual length of the  It is the shortest distance
path covered by a moving measured between the initial
body. and final positions.

 It is always positive or zero.  It may be positive, negative, or

zero.
 It is a scalar quantity  it is a vector quantity.

3) Explain how is it possible for an object to move with a constant speed but with
uniform acceleration.
Answer: An object moving with constant speed can be accelerated if its direction of
motion changes. For example, an object moving with a constant speed in a circular path
has an acceleration because its direction of motion changes continuously.
4) An object P is moving with a constant velocity for 5 minutes. Another object Q is
moving with changing velocity for 5 minutes. Out of these two objects, which one has
acceleration. Explain Change in velocity
Answer:

Since, the velocity of object P is not changing or change in velocity of the object is zero,
therefore, object P has no acceleration. On the other hand, there is change in velocity of
the object Q, so it has acceleration.

II Solve the sums

1)A person jogs 4.0 km in 32 minutes, then 2.0 km in 22 minutes, and finally 1.0 km in
16 minutes. What is the jogger’s average speed in km per minute?
2) A train travels 120 km in 2 hours and 30 minutes. What is its average speed?
3) A plane’s average speed between two cities is 600 km/hr. If the trip takes 2.5 hrs.
how far does the plane fly

III Each of these questions contains an “Assertion” followed by “Reason”. Read

them carefully and answer the question on the basis of following options. You have to
select the one that best describes the two statements
a) If both assertion and reason are correct and reason is the correct explanation of
assertion.
b) If both assertion and reason are correct, but reason is not the correct explanation
of assertion.
c) If assertion is correct but reason is incorrect.
d) If assertion is incorrect but reason is correct.

1) Assertion: A body can have acceleration even if its velocity is zero at a given
instant of time.
Reason: A body is momentarily at rest when it reverses its direction of motion.
Answer (A) Assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of
the assertion
2) Assertion: If the displacement of the body is zero, the distance covered by it may
not be zero.
Reason: Displacement is a vector quantity and distance is a scalar quantity.
Answer : (A) Assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of
the assertion.
3) Assertion: An object can have constant speed but variable velocity.
Reason: Speed is a vector but velocity is a scalar quantity.
Answer (C) Assertion is true and the reason is incorrect .
