Radiation Measurement Techniques
• Geiger Mueller Counter (GM Meter)

• Scintillation Detector

• Ionization Chamber

• Liquid Scintillation Counter

• Gamma Counter

• Personal Radiation Dosimeter

• Bio Assays
In life, it can be a pile of radioactive material with a
minimal amount of activity and a tiny piece of
material with heavy dangerous activity
Types of Radiation Measurements

• Amount of Radioactivity

• Ambient Radiation Levels

• Radiation Dose
Amount of Radioactivity

This is the representation of how many alpha, beta , gamma

and neutron particles are emitted from a small piece of
radioactive material
Ambient Radiation Levels

Ambient Radiation level is the level of radiation at a certain distance. Or the

amount of activity measured at “x” distance from a radioactive source
Radiation Dose

Radiation dose is the dose absorbed at certain point of the body at a distance
Pan cake model Radiation Measurement
Pan cake model Radiation Measurement

Pan cake model radiation measurement device is ideal for measuring

contamination of the workers body, work place or objects. This model is widely
used in screening exercises
Walk Through Radiation Monitor
Walk Through Radiation Monitor
• Widely used in airports, sea ports and facilities

• Best for screening

• Needs a legal consent from persons to be scanned

• Can screen large number of people

• Best for detecting alpha and beta radiation

Gamma Zone Monitor
Gamma Zone Monitor

Digital Gamma Area Zone Monitor (ZM) is an instrument designed to measure and
monitor gamma radiation exposure rates in work areas of industrial radiological
installation, radiation source room and radiation isotope laboratories
