    Course Code and Title: POLI 121 Political Institutions (3 credits)

    Time allowed: The answer provided to the question should be submitted to the lecturer on
    or before mid-night of 5th July 2020 through the UEW-LMS.

    Instructions: Answer two questions. Each answer should not exceed three pages of 12’’ font
    size and 1.5 spacing.

    1. Explain the concept of the independence of the judiciary. Describe four ways by
    which the judiciary can be made independent in Ghana.

    2. Differentiate between single transferable vote system (STVS) and single non-
    transferable vote system (SNTVS). Outline the advantages and disadvantages of
    each of the two systems.

    3. Political parties exist only to contest elections. Do you agree?

    4. Explain the ceremonial and real executive functions of the president in the
    presidential system of government?
