BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Youth political engagement is a critical topic that demands attention in

contemporary societies. As younger generations represent the future leaders and
decision-makers, their active involvement in politics is essential for the effective
functioning of democratic systems. However, research has indicated a concerning
decline in youth political participation, with low voter turnout, disengagement from
political processes, and limited interest in civic affairs. This decline in youth political
engagement raises significant concerns about the future of democracy and effective
governance. Some of literature text exists on this subject, but there’s a noticeable gap in
the many research that states effective strategies to expand political engagement
among youth, empowering young individuals to have an active role in shaping our very
own community and society.

The reason for this project "Youth Political Engagement: Increasing Power for a
Better Future" is to accurately determine what the root cause of reduction in young
people's political participation, addressing those causes, and offer substantial evidence-
based alternatives to promote and for them to delve deeper, to be involved. This project
attempts to investigate the institutional, technological, and sociocultural hurdles that
possibly avert young people from participating in political processes. The goal of the
research is to identify these obstacles and develop practical solutions that will empower
and inspire young people to engage in local and national politics. Additionally, actively
planning necessitates influencing the future we leave behind as well as adjusting to
changes. Maintaining current technological, social, and economic changes is necessary
to improve future literacy. Engaging in the process of forming.

 By reviving youth political engagement, this research project has the potential to
promote democracy and social harmony. Youth participation in politics is essential for
their own empowerment as well as for ensuring that choices and policies reflect the
many interests and ambitions of the entire population. This initiative gives the chance to
promote a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant political scene by addressing the issue
of decreased young political involvement and offering practical answers. Additionally, it
develops informed, engages citizens more specifically the youths who can shape a
better future for themselves and their own society and community. Supporting this
research is therefore an investment in the resilience of young people as well as their
future participation in politics.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The research project "Youth Political Engagement: Increasing Power for a Better
Future" aims to address the pressing issue of declining youth political participation and
empower young individuals to actively engage in political processes for a more inclusive
and equitable society.
This project will be a collaborative effort involving academic researchers, youth
advocacy organizations, and policymakers.

Research Questions, Goals, and Objectives:

Questions: What are underlying factors that contributes to the decline of youth
political engagement, how can we properly address this?
Goals: To create strategies in which empowers young individuals to take an
active role in politics and their community.
Objectives: Proposing actionable solutions to foster increased youth political
engagement. To identify what are the things that hinder youth political participation.

Research Methodology and Data Collection:

The research will employ a mixed-methods approach to gain comprehensive

insights into youth political engagement. Quantitative surveys will be conducted to
assess current levels of youth political participation, attitudes towards politics, and
perceptions of barriers to engagement. Qualitative interviews and focus groups will
allow for in-depth exploration of the lived experiences and perspectives of young
individuals regarding political involvement. Additionally, existing data and literature will
be analyzed to understand successful initiatives that have effectively increased youth
political engagement.

Expected Outcomes and Impact:

The project's outcomes are geared towards empowering young people and
revitalizing youth political engagement. The project's success will be measured by
increased youth voter turnout, participation in civic affairs, and engagement in political
activism. Additionally, the research findings will inform policymakers and youth
organizations, guiding the development of targeted interventions to foster a more
politically engaged youth population.

Ultimately, the impact of this project extends beyond the target population of
young individuals. As empowering young individuals will also empower those that are
not heard and those people that need to be heard. Envisioning better future in which
young people are armed with adequate knowledge, skills, and motivation to partake in
such civic affairs and to possibly drive positive change. In addition, the findings and
recommendations from this research have a massive potential to influence broader
societal attitudes towards youth political engagement making people think twice about
not including the youths in the conversation, inform the development of sustainable,
inclusive democratic practices for generations to come.

Project Needs and Key Personnel
The expected overall cost for this research is between PHP 50,000 and PHP
60,000. This includes the venue, food, refreshments, certificates, merchandising,
logistical guests, speakers, transportation costs, and other costs that are specific to the
project. The anticipated project timeframe is from the moment this study was approved
(likely in the second week of August) through the third week of October 2023. The
researcher's qualifications and areas of competence are as follows:

IMPACT OF PROJECT

The impact of the project "Youth Political Engagement: Increasing Power for a
Better Future" will be profound, as it addresses the critical issue of declining youth
political participation and empowers young individuals to play an active role in shaping
their societies. The expected outcomes, including evidence-based strategies to foster
increased youth engagement, will contribute significantly to the field of political science
and youth studies. By generating new knowledge on effective methods to overcome
barriers hindering youth political involvement, this research will inform policy and
practice, guiding the development of targeted interventions to strengthen democratic
processes and ensure a more representative and inclusive political landscape.
Ultimately, the project's impact will extend far beyond the research period, empowering
a politically engaged youth population capable of driving positive change for a better
future.
