Throughout its history, the capital has received

several names: Ciudad de los Reyes, Perla del

Pacífico, La tres veces coronada villa and
Ciudad Jardín, among others.
On January 18, 1535, Francisco Pizarro
proceeded to found the city.

In 1534, Pizarro sent an expedition to look for a strategic

Lima
place and that's how they found what today is Lima.
It was close to the sea, but remote enough to be a safe place
in case of attack. It also had good weather, fruit trees and good roads.

The term Lima is derived from the name of the Rimac River, which comes
from the Quechua language and means "talkative".

Francisco Pizarro named the city Ciudad de los Reyes.

It is said that this name was given because of the festivity that commemorates
the arrival of the Three Kings in Bethlehem.
