CAUTION: AT OR BEFORE THE END OF THE APPLICABLE TIME LIMIT (3 OR 10 DAYS), IT IS NECESSAR
Y TO DO THE FULL INSTALLATION:
- REMOVE THE ANTENNA
- CLEAN THE FUSELAGE AND ANTENNA SURFACES AND REMOVE ALL SIGNS OF HU
MIDITY
- INSTALL THE ANTENNA WITH FULL INSTALLATION OF THE SEALANT.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THERE IS A RISK OF WATER INFILTRATION AND CORROSION.
D. Aircraft Antenna Sealant-Exemption
If it is not possible to apply sealant and to get the cure time, then:
The table that follows gives the time limits for sealant installation for VHF antenna.
These limits are adapted to:
- Antenna installation configuration
- Antenna location
- Antenna sensitivity to water infiltration
- Sealant availability
Configuration of antenna in If the Airline has sealant but does not If the Airline has no sealant av
stallation want to wait until the sealant is cured ailable

WARNING: DO NOT APPLY ADHESIVE TAPE ON THE PROBES, DUCTS, SENSORS (STATIC, PITOT, TAT,
AOA, ICE DETECTION PROBES (IF INSTALLED)). USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED TOOLS FOR TH
E PROTECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE SPECIFIED TOOLS:
- GIVE THE CORRECT PROTECTION TO THE AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT,
- ARE EASY TO SEE FROM THE GROUND,
- ARE EASY TO REMOVE.
IF YOU USE TAPE, THERE IS A RISK THAT SOME TAPE, OR ADHESIVE FROM THE TAPE, WIL
L STAY ON THE PROBES, DUCTS OR SENSORS. THIS CAN CAUSE INCORRECT INDICATION
S ON THE RELATED COCKPIT INSTRUMENTS.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE METAL TOOLS TO REMOVE THE UNWANTED MATERIAL. METAL TOOLS CAN C
AUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE COMPONENTS.
CAUTION: INSTALL THE ANTI-EROSION TAPE ONLY ON THE NEW ANTENNAS AND/OR ON THE ANTEN
NAS WHICH DO NOT SHOW SIGNS OF PAINT EROSION. THE INSTALLATION OF ANTI-EROSI
ON TAPE IS A PREVENTIVE ACTION, NOT A REPAIR PROCEDURE.
E. Installation of the Anti-Erosion Tape on the VHF Antenna
Ref. Fig. Installation of the Anti-Erosion Tape on the VHF Antenna
NOTE: It is not mandatory to install the anti-erosion tape but Airbus recommends it.
NOTE: It is recommended to use all the materials from one supplier.
(1) Cut the anti-erosion tape (the Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.36mm L
egacy (Material Ref. 05RQB9) or the Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.3
6mm - (Material Ref. 05RQB1)) to the necessary length.
(2) Do not remove the release paper from the anti-erosion tape.
(3) Put the anti-erosion tape in position on the leading edge of the VHF antenna (1).
(4) Attach the anti-erosion tape to the VHF antenna (1) with the adhesive tape and make a mark a
round the area of the anti-erosion tape.
(5) Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in.) strip of adhesive tape on the areas adjacent to the anti-erosion tape in t
he longitudinal direction.
(6) Remove the anti-erosion tape.
(7) Clean the area with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone - (Material Ref. 08BBF1), t
he Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material Ref. 08BAA9) or the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isop
ropyl Alcohol - (Material Ref. 08BBD1).
NOTE: You can use one of the alternative solvents given in AIMS09-00-002.
(8) Install the anti-erosion tape on the leading edge of the VHF antenna (1) as follows:

TAIL NUMBER - MSN - FSN:
(a) Apply the anti-erosion tape immediately after you clean the area:
- Wait for 20 to 30 minutes for the cleaning agent to dry.
- Clean the area with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material Ref. 14SBA1) to remo
ve the condensation.
- Put the anti-erosion tape (with its release paper) in the correct position on the l
eading edge of the VHF antenna (1).
- Attach the anti-erosion tape along the full length of the two sides of the leading
edge of the VHF antenna (1) with the adhesive tape.
(b) Gradually remove the adhesive tape from one side of the VHF antenna (1) and peel an
approximately 50 mm (2.0 in.) wide strip of the release paper from the anti-erosion tap
e.
(c) Lightly push the anti-erosion tape against the leading edge of the VHF antenna (1).
(d) Remove the adhesive tape from the opposite side of the VHF antenna (1) and turn the
anti-erosion tape.
(f) Gradually push the anti-erosion tape against the leading edge of the VHF antenna (1).
(g) Make sure that there are no air bubbles below the anti-erosion tape.
(h) If necessary, carefully remove the air bubbles with the SPATULA - PLASTIC or the ROLL
ER - RUBBER.
(i) Let the tape cure for a minimum of one hour at a minimum temperature of 15 deg.C (5
9 deg.F).
(9) Airbus recommends to remove the anti-erosion tape if the flight crew hears unwanted noise du
ring the VHF communication.
NOTE: Anti-erosion tape can release static electricity (which can cause electrostatic disch
arge on the antenna and unwanted noise during the VHF communication).
