I. Objectives
At the end of the period, the pupils are expected to achieve the following skills:
Identify elements of a story
Analyze story elements through a story graphic organizer
Never discriminate others.
Know first the truth

II. Subject Matter


Topics: Story Elements
References: MELCs; English 4 Quarter 3 Module 8
Materials: printed pictures, activity sheets, activity cards, video presentations,
PowerPoint presentation
Skills: listening, identifying, analyzing, organizing

Preliminary Activities

Introduction
 Allow the class to stay in their group.
 Show them some graphic organizers and allow them to identify each.
 Ask them to listen to a short story entitled “The Crow and The Fox”. Then,
ask some questions.
 Provide each group puzzle pieces with sentence/phrase clue for them to
arrange to form words: SETITNG, CHARACTERS, PLOT. They will post
their works on the board.
 Explain that today they will learn to identify and analyze stories using its
elements.
Lesson Proper/Explicit Instruction/ Teacher Modelling
1. Ask everyone to read the questions and unfamiliar words from the
monitor.
2. Allow each group to listen back the short story entitled “The Crow and
The Fox”.
3. Give them 5 minutes to answer the questions. Allow them to write their
answers on the paper provided.
4. Guide them to answer the unfamiliar words by completing the word
boxes.
5. Allow each group to present their output in the class. Then check for
difficulties.
6. Let the class read again the words formed earlier from the puzzle
pieces. Explain each story element briefly with examples with video
presentation.
7. Allow each group to identify which questions that best describe each
element of the story (CHARACTERS, SETTING, PLOT) by filling-in the
graphic organizer given.
8. Provide more examples.
Guided Practice
1. Guide the class in reading the questions.
2. Allow each group to read the short story “The Boy with Two Eyes” from
Colega lesson.
3. Let them work with their group to discuss the story. Allow each group
to answer the questions and provide answers on the given graphic
organizer.
4. Let each group present their work in the class done by a group
reporter.
5. Allow each group to scrutinize others output positively. Check for
difficulties.
Generalization/Abstraction
Ask them with the following questions:
 What have you learned from the activities you did?
 Are the story elements applicable or should be practiced in our
life?
 How about the short story you analyzed its elements? What
lesson did you learn from it?
IV. Assessment
(Paper-and-Pencil) Let the class watch a short story. To analyze the story,
allow them to create a graphic organizer that shows its element.

Differentiated: Learners with greater challenge can be given a copy of the


story but with an activity sheet where a graphic organizer is already provided.

V. Enrichment
Show the elements of the story given through a graphic organizer. Write it
in a piece of clean paper.
