Course Introduction
The objective of this course is to make students familiar with the fundamentals of analog and digital communication.
At the end of this course, the students will have understood the fundamental principles which underpin the analysis
and design of communication systems, analysis of different types of modulation for both analog and digital
communication, and behavior of different communication systems in the presence of noise. This course will provide a
foundation of knowledge on which expertise can be built in advanced courses like digital communications,
telecommunication systems, wireless communications, coding theory, and information theory.

Course Contents
 Comparison and analysis of communication signals
 Amplitude modulation - concept, demodulation, single side band, double side band, quadrature amplitude
modulation, vestigial side band, AM receiver and other applications
 Angle modulation - concept, frequency modulation, demodulation, FM receiver and other applications
 Sampling and reconstruction
 Differential pulse code modulation and delta modulation - concept and applications
 Digital communication systems, digital line coding, pulse shaping, and scrambling - concept and
applications
