With the introduction of the competence-based curricula, in accordance with Instructions No. 08/B1/1464/MINEDUD/SG of 17 th August 2018,
related to back-to-school 2018/2019 academic year in primary and nursery schools in Cameroon, we have gone through a series of experimental phases.
We started with sensitization in August 2018 as to why a new curriculum, how are they conceived, what are the contents, how shall they be made
pedagogically applicable etc., before moving into the implementation phase. During these years of probation, we have been organising regional,
divisional/sub-divisional workshops and seminars with pedagogic supervisors and teachers of the English-speaking sub-system, to equip them with
necessary skills and competences expected to meet up with the challenges of government’s expectations.
In the course of such workshops and seminars, some difficulties were raised by teachers in relation to the implementation of the draft curricula.
While some local solutions were suggested by participants, others were forwarded to hierarchy. From the adjustments and publication of official copies of
the curricula at the beginning of the 2019/2020 academic year, we had to review our draft schemes as well. That is why teachers of English-speaking
primary and nursery schools throughout the region, were assigned tasks to conceive schemes-of-work under the supervision of Divisional delegates,
Divisional Pedagogic Advisers for Bilingualism, Sub-divisional Inspectors and Pedagogic Advisers. These schemes therefore, are syntheses of your
proposals.
The objectives of these regional harmonised schemes-of-work are:
-To harmonize the teaching/learning content, activities and periods in relation to curricula coverage, vary pedagogic projects according to
pupils’ environment and improve learners’ performances in the region;
-For teachers to identify and organise the teaching contents, expected learning outcomes, appropriate teaching/learning strategies and resources
for the week, month, term and academic year;
-To facilitate the preparation of lesson notes, pedagogic project forms and platforms by teachers;
-To enable teachers and pupils, meet the objectives of learners’ profile prescribed in the curricula by the end of the course.
-To create an objective instrument for pedagogic supervisors to follow-up, remediate, evaluate, take immediate decisions and make suggestions
to hierarchy on pressing difficulties.
Each teacher is therefore, obliged to have the schemes and respect them for his/ her class. Regional, Divisional and Sub-divisional pedagogic
supervisors shall enforce ownership and usage of these curricula by teachers. Any difficulties encountered or suggestions to make shall be addressed to
your immediate hierarchy in that order, to be forwarded to the Regional delegation, Inspectorate for the Coordination of Education, Bafoussam.
These schemes-of-work are the property of the Regional delegation and consequently, not to be sold.
THE REGIONAL DELEGATE

INTRODUCTION
The contents of these schemes-of-work, originate from the Cameroon Primary and Nursery School curricula for English sub-system. It is an assemblage of the seven
national core skills and four broad-based competences. It takes into account the level, class/nursery, domains, eight integrated learning themes for eight teaching
months, disciplines, units/contents, expected learning outcomes, weightings, teaching/learning materials etc. These aspects have been contextually integrated to suit
the seasons, festivities, activities, sociological composition, traditions and customs etc. of the West region and Cameroon. The word ‘component’ as used in the
schemes, represents the denomination of a discipline and applies only to the primary. There is also precision, on the number of expected learning outcomes
(competences) to be taught/learned according to an activity/discipline or component per week, month, term and year.
WRDBE INSPECTORATE FOR THE COORDINATION OF EDUCATION CLASS SIX SCHEMES OF WORK Page 2
These schemes are syntheses of proposals from teachers and pedagogic supervisors, and are explicit enough for exploitation by both trained and untrained
teachers. The layout makes it possible to understand the contents without difficulties, and integrate them into pedagogic projects. The constituent parts of the
schemes should be given particular attention. The preamble of each activity/discipline, makes specific difference in the use of concepts and terminologies.
Consequently, lesson notes and other accompanying pedagogic documents and activities, should make use of these appellations as prescribed by our curricula. For
example, we expect thenceforth, that instead of ‘didactic materials’ in the nursery we should say ‘expected resources,’ though the two are synonyms.
Teachers are expected to use the schemes to prepare Weekly Integrated Plan Templates (formerly called General Lesson Plans), Individual Lesson Notes (Plan),
Pedagogic Project Forms and Platforms. The choice of which pedagogic projects to integrate to the monthly integrated learning themes and contents is left open to be
decided by pupils, teachers and their hierarchy. Nonetheless, a Weekly Integrated Plan Template does not, in any way replace the preparation of Individual Lesson
Notes. Pedagogic supervisors should be vigilant and insistent in the preparation of lesson notes by teachers following the schemes, and that no activity/discipline or
component is neglected.
