I. Introitus

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord,
et lux perpetua luceat eis. and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Te decet hymnus, Deus, in Sion, Becoming of you is a hymn, God in Zion,


et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem. and a vow be paid to you in Jerusalem.
Exaudi orationem meam, Listen to my prayer,
ad te omnis caro veniet. to you all flesh shall come.

No. 2 Tuba mirum

Tuba mirum spargens sonum The trumpet, spreading its wondrous sound
Per sepulcra regionum through the tombs of every land
Coget omnes ante thronum. will summon all before the throne.

Mors slopebit et natora Death and nature will marvel


Cum resurget creatura when all creation will rise again
Judicanti responsura. to answer the Judge.

Liber scriptus proferetur The written book will be brought forth,


In quo totum continetur, in which all is contained,
Unde mundus judicetur. and from which the world shall be judged.

Judex ergo cum sedebit When therefore the Judge will sit,
Quidquid latet apparebit, whatever lies hidden will appear:
Nil inultum remanebit. nothing will remain unpunished.
Quid sum miser tunc dicturus, What then am I – a poor wretch – going to say?
Quem patronum togaturus, Which patron shall I entreat,
Cum vix justus sit securus? when even the just may hardly be sure?

Rex tremendae majestatis, King of terrifying majesty,


Qui salvandos salvas gratis, who saves the redeemed freely,
Salve me, fons pietatis. save me, O fount of mercy.

No. 4 Recordare

Recordare, Jesu pie, Remember, merciful Jesus,


Quod sum causa tuae viae, that I am the cause of Your journey,
Ne me perdas ilia die. do not lose me on that day.

Quaerens me sedisti lassus, Seeking me, You sat down, weary;


Redemisti crucem passus, You redeemed me, having suffered the Cross:
Tamus labor non sit cassus. let not such labor be in vain.

Juste judex ultionis Just Judge of vengeance,


Donum fac remissionis grant a gift of remission
Ante diem rationis. before the day of reckoning.

lngemisco tamquam reus, I groan, like the guilty one,


Culpa rubet vultus meus, my face reddens in guilt.
Supplicanti parce, Deus. Spare the imploring one, God.

Qui Mariam absolvisti You who absolved Mary Magdalene,


Et latronem exaudisti, and heard the thief,

Preces meae non sum dignae, My prayers are not worthy,


Sed tu bonus fac benigne, but You, who are good, graciously grant,

Et ab haedis me sequestra, and separate me from the goats,

Confutatis maledictis Once the cursed have been silenced,


Flammis acribus addictis, sentenced to the acrid flames,
Voca me cum benedictis. call me to be with the blessed.

Oro supplex et acclinis, Humbly kneeling and bowed I pray,


Cor contritum quasi cinis, my heart crushed as ashes:
Gere curam mei finis. take care of my end.

Lacrimosa dies ilia Full of tears will be the day


Qua resurget ex favilla when from the ashes arise the
Judicandus homo reus. guilty man to be judged;
Huic ergo parce, Deus, therefore spare me, God,

Pie Jesu Domine, Merciful Lord Jesus,


Dona eis requiem. grant them rest.

IV. Offertorium

No. 1 Domine, Jesu Christe

Domine, Jesu Christe, Rex gloriae, Lord, Jesus Christ, King of glory,
libera animas omniurn fidelium deliver the souls of all the faithful departed
defunctorum from internal fire, and from the bottomless abyss;
de poenis inferni, et de prof undo lacu: deliver them from the mouth of the lion,
libera cas de ore leonis, engulf them not in hell, nor sink them into darkness.
ne absorbeat eas tartarus, ne cadant in
obscurum, but let standard-bearer Saint Michael
lead them in the holy light,
sed signifer sanctus Michael as you promised to Abraham
repraesentet eas in lucem sanctam, and his seed.

No. 2 Hostias Sacrifices, and prayers to the Lord,


praise we offer:
Hostias et preces, tibi, Domine, receive them on behalf of the souls
laudis offerimus: we commemorate this day.
tu suscipe pro animabus illis, Cause them, Lord, to pass from death to life.
quarum hodie memoriam facimus: as you promised to Abraham
fac eas, Domine, de morte Iransire ad and his seed.

quia pius es. because you are merciful.
