COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a critical survey of ethics and its history as well as a survey of the basic
ethical theories and their principles. It would also tackle Stewardship principles
based from the word of God. This course is conducted from a Seventh-day
Adventist Christian perspective.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:


1. Understand and appreciate the history of ethics.
2. Articulate the Seventh-day Adventist Christian understanding of
ethics.
3. Develop a love for the ethical enterprise and deep longing for
ethical formation.
4. Established Biblical principles on Christian Stewardship.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

A. Class Attendance
Campus policy on attendance will be applied. Students are
expected to be in regular attendance and on time for the class.
Inattentiveness that includes distracting side-conversations, napping,
reading and writing for other classes, internet surfing, and talking or texting
on cell phones are decidedly discouraged. Students are also expected to
actively participate in class discussions and group dynamics. During the
online sessions, student should be seated uprightly and camera should be
turned on for the whole duration of the class. Individual meetings with the
professor will be scheduled later during the term in order to help students
with particular issues and needs.

B. Quizzes and Assignments


Quizzes will be announced and unannounced. The student is
required to be prepared for class at all times and pass all assignments on
the assigned time. Quizzes will cover lectures and class discussions. Missed
quizzes may be made up only on emergency cases such as severe illness
(with a doctors certificate), accident, and unexpected death in the
immediate family. Other than that mentioned, non-excused absences will
not be honored.

C. Exam
There will be four major exams covered for the semester Prelim,
Midterm, Semi-Final and Final. Exam passes are required before taking the
exam. The examination will cover the materials used during the period.
Special exam is only allowed on the case of one of the following: serious
illness (with doctor’s certificate), accident, and death in the immediate
family.

D. Reading Journal
Students are required to submit an article reading journal based on
the criteria stated below:
Ø Summary of the major points
Ø An energetic engagement and interaction with the material.
Ø Points that stood out or that were new and helpful to the student.
Ø Points of agreement or disagreement, and/or thoughts needing
clarification.
Ø Applications of concepts and values to our Spiritual life.

E. Online Forum and Seatworks


Students are required to participate in an online forum and
seatworks. Forum will be posted at the Moodle site and students are
expected to have virtual interaction. Seatworks will also be posted with
time allotment.

COURSE POLICIES

1. All requirements should be turned in on the specified time.


Do not turn in requirements at the instructor’s house.
2. Set cellphones in silent mode while the class is going on.
3. A student is expected to attend his/her classes promptly and regularly.
A student who incurs absences, whether excused or unexcused, that
exceed the 20% (5 absences) of the number of hours required for the
course will be given a mark of FA (Failure in Attendance). A student who
comes to class tardy three times will be marked absent once.

4. Academic honesty shall be observed at all times. A dishonest work
cannot be given any credit. The student will be subjected to disciplinary
measures.
5. A student who is not wearing the prescribed uniform cannot be
accepted to class. He/She must get an acceptance note signed by the
VPAA.
6. Examinations shall be taken on the scheduled time. Only for sickness,
emergency in the family or financial reasons can the student be given
special examination fee of Php30.00 per unit.
7. The removal policy as stipulated in the Academic Manual shall be
observed.

Grade Computation formula: SS/PS *50+50; Total Grade= Midterm-50% +


Final-50%

98-100 = A 83-85 = C+
95-97 = A- 80-82 = C
92-94 = B+ 77-79 = C-
89-91 = B 75-76 = D
86-88 = B- 74 & below
