Read and answer the questions about a tourist visit to Arequipa.

An American tourist, David, is visiting Peru. A journalist is interviewing him. He has to write an
article for the tourism page of his magazine.
(J= interviewer, D= tourist)

J: How long did you stay in Arequipa?

D: Two weeks.
J: What cities did you visit?
D: Well, I went to Camana, Caraveli, Mollendo, the port, and of course the capital city,
Arequipa. It’s amazing! Most houses are built with blocks of white lava. They told me it is
called “sillar”. Now I understand why they call Arequipa “The White City”. I saw the Misti
Volcano. It’s covered with white lava.
J: Did you go on a city tour?
D: Yes, I visited the cathedral, Santa Catalina Monastery and museums. I saw “Juanita”, the
mummy of the young Inca girl found on Ampato Peak. It was very impressive. I went to a
“Picanteria”, a typical food restaurant where I ate “Rocoto Relleno”, “Ocopa” and delicious
shrimps.
J: And did you go to Colca?
D: Of course. It is an incredible valley. I went canoeing on the Colca River. Oh, my God! All
those rapids. It was absolutely fascinating!
J: I’m happy to hear that you liked Arequipa so much. Thank you for the interview and for
coming to Peru.
D: You’re welcome.
