SUBJECT: Landing Gear - Goodrich Wheel Assemblies - Clarification of Tire Deflation Tools

1. Effectivity

Goodrich wheel assemblies installed on civil aircraft.

2. Reference

Applicable Goodrich Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs) and other Goodrich

maintenance documents.

3. Purpose

CMMs can include incomplete data about the tools that are used for tire deflation.

This Service Letter gives clarification on the tools used to deflate tires installed on
Goodrich wheel assemblies.

4. Procedure

NOTE: Refer to the applicable CMM to find which inflation valve part numbers are
approved for a wheel assembly.

A. It is necessary to remove the valve core, then use an air hose to siphon air from the
tire when you use deflation tool P/N 27272 (supplied by Myers Industries, Inc.) or
P/N 6108-J (supplied by Dill Air Controls Products). This tool is for use with standard
size valves installed in a tube type tire. Refer to Figure 1.

B. It is not necessary to remove the valve core before tire deflation when you use
deflation tool P/N 27117 (supplied by Myers Industries, Inc.) or P/N 5170 (supplied
by Dill Air Controls Products). This tool is for use with the standard size valves
installed in a tubeless type tire. Refer to Figure 2.

C. Adapter P/Ns 8807 and 9061 (supplied by Dill Air Controls Products) reduce a large
size valve to a standard size valve. The adapter P/N 8807 is installed inside the
valve stem. The adapter P/N 9061 is installed over the valve stem. Use one of these
adapters on a large size valve with deflation tools P/Ns 27117 or 5170 to deflate the
tire. Refer to Figure 3.
