SECTION A (All questions in this section are compulsory)


QUESTION 1:
a(i). Mention five applications of conic section in different industries. (5marks)
(ii). Construct an ellipse of major and minor diameter 150mm and 80mm respectively using the trammel
method. (write briefly the procedures taken in not more than five sentences). (5marks)
b(i). Write five differences between first and third angle projection. (5marks)
(ii). Assuming a step block is suspended between horizontal and vertical plane which are at right angle to
each other as shown in the diagram below. Draw the first angle elevations and the plan looking in the direction
of the arrow.

c(i). Define the term development. (1mark)


(ii). List four applications of development. (4marks)
d(i). Define the term fastening. (1mark)
(ii). List the three methods commonly used to fasten materials. (3marks)
e. Sketch a circle of radius 5cm using square method and write in five sentences the procedures taken.

f. Define section lines. (1mark)
g(i). What is CAD? (1mark)
(ii). Write four advantages of CAD over manual drawing. (4marks)

SECTION B (Answer one (1) question)


QUESTION 2:
(a). Construct two branches of hyperbola having foci 70mm apart and vertices 40mm apart. Locate:
(i). The asymptotes. (ii). The directrices. (iii). Measure the included angle.
(iv). Draw the normal and tangent at a point 60mm between the two curves. (30marks)

QUESTION 3:
A cone of base diameter 80mm and axis 100mm is resting on its base on the horizontal Plane. It is completely
penetrated by a cylinder of base diameter 40mm and axis 100mm. The axes of the solids intersect each other
at right angle 30mm above the base of the cone. Draw the projections of the combination and show the curves
of intersections. (30marks)

QUESTION 4:
A cone of base diameter 60mm and axis 60mm long resting on its base is sectioned at 30o to the horizontal
from the point 20mm from the base by a plane XX’. Draw:
(i). The front view looking from your left hand side (ii). The complete plan (iii). The end elevation of the
frustum. (iv). The true shape of the cut surface (iv). The development of the frustum opening from X point
closer to the base.
