QUEENSHIP OF MARY
“Great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon
under her feet, and on her head, a crown of twelve stars.” (Revelation 12: 1) A
week after the celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we
celebrate the Memorial of the Queenship of Mary. This feast was instituted by
Pope Pius XII in 1954. We particularly meditate this mystery of the Life of Jesus
and Mary whenever we would pray the fifth Glorious Mystery of the Holy
Rosary. A stained glass depicting the Queenship of Mary is enthroned in one of
our cathedral stained glasses.
