Q) Why the deployment of 3G and 4G services launch 5 years
later in Pakistan? Give reason.
Ans) Pakistan began its 3G and 4G journey on April 23, 2014
when the government conducted an auction for spectrum
licenses, allowing telecommunication companies to provide
these services. The introduction of 3G and 4G services is
dependent on various factors, including government policies,
regulatory frameworks, infrastructure readiness, and market
demand. In the case of Pakistan, the delay in launching these
services was mainly due to bureaucratic processes, policy
formulation, and the auction of frequency spectrums required
for 3G and 4G networks. The government had to establish
appropriate regulations and frameworks to facilitate the
deployment of these technologies.
Additionally, the required infrastructure and equipment
needed for 3G and 4G networks had to be put in place, which
took some time. The telecom operators in Pakistan needed to
invest in upgrading their network infrastructure to support the
higher speeds and capabilities of 3G and 4G technologies.
After it was established in the country there were many
subscribers of 3G and 4G. According to PTA the number of 3G
and 4G users in Pakistan increased by 1.35 million from 122.81
million by the end of January 2023 to 124.16 million by the end
of February.

Q) Why blackberry ruled out of the market and apple is so
successful?
Ans) Apple and Blackberry were both successful in the mobile
phone business for different reasons. Apple was able to create
a user-friendly and visually appealing operating system, which
was able to attract a wide range of consumers. Additionally,
Apple's marketing strategy was able to effectively promote its
products as a status symbol. On the other hand, Blackberry was
initially successful due to its focus on business and enterprise
users. Its secure messaging and email capabilities were highly
valued by companies and government agencies. However, as
consumers began to place a greater emphasis on aesthetics and
multimedia capabilities in their mobile devices, Blackberry
struggled to keep up with the demands of the market.
Ultimately, Apple's ability to appeal to a wider range of
consumers and its effective marketing strategy were key factors
in its success over Blackberry in the mobile phone business.

Q) Why services like Wi-Tribe etc rolled out of the Pakistani
market? Give reasons.
Ans) In 2009, the wi-tribe group, owned by Qatar Telecom
(now Ooredoo) launched its largest operations in Pakistan. In
Pakistan, wi-tribe is operating in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore,
and Rawalpindi.
In March 2016, wi-tribe was acquired by the HB Group from
Ooredoo.
In 2020, due to a critical problem with the tower management
business, edotco, the company ceased operations in Lahore.
The situation arose because of a disagreement between the
companies, which worsened after the departure of the highly
regarded edotco group head, Suresh Sidhu; ostensibly, the
disagreement was over a service-level agreement and the
renegotiation of tower rentals due to the expiration of land-
owner leases, with edotco negotiating in a way that would
result in huge increases and premiums being demanded from
wi-tribe. Here, edotco was trying to use the deliberate
shutdown of wi-tribe base stations on edotco towers as a
bargaining chip in a business dispute. As a kind of vengeance,
the wi-tribe stopped making payments. The now-fired CEO of
edotco Pakistan, Arif Hussain, responded by shutting down the
towers in key cities, leaving customers without access to
broadband.
