Weekly Report: 1

I joined Aman Textile, a reputed Garments industry, as an intern on the 15th October, 2015. My
office is situated at Uttara. Aman Textile has been conducting business for over 18 years. It is
one of the most reliable Garments industry for the foreigners. I have been assigned to work as a
merchandizer in this garments.

On my first day at office, before the commencement of my job as a merchandizer I was given
some papers which includes certain rules and regulations about the company. Everyone must
read before starting their job. I read all the terms and conditions of the company.

After that. I was told to read the job description of my post which I’m assigned to. Later, I was
asked questions about it and examined whether I’m completely aware of this or not. My
supervisor told me “communication policies are important regarding contact with people outside
the company or country”.

After all those assessment I was given instruction how to operate telephone, fax machine,
photocopy machine and some other stuffs..I was given lists of buyers and their orders and told
me to arrange them based on the number of orders. As a merchandizer I had to categorize them
in a documents and note all their colors, size, GSM etc.gathering information on customers'
reactions to products. Later I went to work closely with visual display staff and department heads
to learn and decide how goods should be displayed to maximize customer interest and sales.

Apart from this job, during those days I had quite a lot of interactions with the officers, senior
officers and assistant managers who, in general, initiated interactions in order to explain the basic
work processes and tasks that underlie the team.
Weekly Report: 2

I passed my second week through learning many important things in order to perform my duty
smoothly. The work pressure was pretty much higher than my first week. As it was sunday,
everyone became very busy to alleviate the pressure because of upcoming winter. Plenty of
orders and their progresses needed to be checked. I got the responsibilities to oversee all those
jobs.

Apart from all those jobs, the most important part was that, I learnt how to do knitting. I had to
ask many questions to my supervisor about how does a knitting machine works, what needs to be
done before knitting, are there any special procedure for knitting particular fabrics. My
supervisor was very helpful and explained every question I had asked. Even he showed me some
infographic and videos stored on the computer about how do knitting machine works and what
are the processes of doing those tasks. I did not have to put much effort as everything was in
order and easily understable. I got everthing arranged in step by step.

Later on, I got back to my work and started listing all those orders and their progresses. Color,
size, quantity, due date, packaging details and other stuff. Everything need to be checked again
and again in case there is any mistake. I had to report to my supervisor about the order progress
every hour.

However, this week I had access to “account for sale inventory”. I learnt how to access account
and record all the transactions. The company always keeps backup of every transaction on cloud
storage. So, this is a great opportunity for me to learn how to conduct a business operation as I
have a plan to start my own.

Another this I learnt this week is called dyeing. It means adding color or changing the color of
textile product like fibers, yarns and fabrics. Special solutions and particular checmicals are used
in dyeing. I am lucky to have gained knowledge and many crucial things about garment industry
nonetheless I am working as a merchandiser. As I am becoming familiar with the daily tasks, so
it’s helping me to boost my work speed than before.

Evaluation of Week’s Experiences

Learned more about liaising with buyer, analysts, stores and suppliers. If there is any conflict of
interest arises then it should be resolved by negotiating and compromising for the future
benefit. My supervisor introduced me to one of his friends who is a fashion designer in
profession. So, we had a conversation about how buying house, fashion industry changes their
strategy to keep pace with the changing trends. It seems pretty easy to cope up with the
changing trend but anticipation and research is needed to get the right product to customer
hand at the right time. I was very excited to learn more about it. Then he gave me a brief idea
about producing layout plan for stores, sometimes called as “statement”.

Later on, I got back to my work and started making records and checked size, color, quantity, fabrics
used, quality and order progress of our clients. Whenver I found any mistakes or confusion regarding any
of the records I refer it to my supervisor and learn how to resolve those matter. However, this week I have
learned using softwares on how to handle “sales statistics”. Using these softwares alleviate the pressure of
recording and mointoring every data and records done manually. At first glance, it looked very difficult to
me to use those softwares but my supervisor instructed me and showed me how to use this software in
step by step.

Concise description each day:

On Monday, I gave a brief report of my last week work progress. Also, I checked in some samples which
are in bound transfer. For the first time I used scanning gun and softwares related to it. It was fun to do.
Obviously, a new experience for me. When I scanned the barcode it made a sound and all the
informations about the merchandise appeared on the monitor. After checking all the details, I clicked
receive and gave approval.

Then I stored all the goods in a carton. After that I did my job as usual and stored all the informations to
cloud storage as backup.
On Wednesday, I started my job checking in bound sample first. After the checking, I processed all the
documents of this season receipt log and arrange them in order. Then I checked our folder and cloud
storage including purchase order receipt and compared them to documents files. And then checked
whether everything is in order or not. I rearranged documents and kept those in order.

On Thursday, I started my office very late as I got drenched in rain and stuck in traffic for hours. After I
reached safely to my destination, I started checking orders, their progress and calculated whether it will
be possible to finish our job within our expected time or not. Then I reported to my authority about the
work progress.

description to gain more knowledge about it. It is important to learn more about fabric description to
give our client a clear idea about particular fabrics. Then I summed up each fabric’s advantages and
disadvantages, what it is made of and its selling tips. Fabric selectoin is crucial in order to take right
decision. It became easier for me to get information about the fabrics because everything was stored in
a file in our computer. But I needed to google some of them to learn more about it.

Evaluation of Week’s Experiences

The work pressure keeps increasing day by day. Througout the whole week I have learned and practiced
different things to conduct the work as a merchandiser. In order to undertake those task successfully,
shrewd planning, careful practicing, managing inventory etc are needed. Mostly, diversification of
knowledge is important in this regard. This week I have mainly focused on how to negotiate with the
clients. As I have done my major in Marketing and HRM, it took me a little amount of time to understand
the negotiation process. To create a win-win situation there are a lot if things that need to be
considered. My supervisor guided me to get that easily.

In addition. I have learned handling supply or production problems as they arise. My supervisor helped
me to understand how to deal with problems regarding supply and production.

Once the problem arises it makes everything pretty messed up. It takes a substantial amount of time to
get things in order. So, I learnt how to reduce time to fix those problems.

Concise description each day:

On Monday, after printing out last weeks report, I checked some of the other reports and saw if there
was any mistake or corrections to be made.

Then I started doing my usual job. I wrote down the number of sold items and gave entries to our
database, updated and rated this week’s sales out of the total number of merchandise. Thus, I was able
to see which of the merchandize was selling well.

Later on, I rearranged kids section and categorize them in order. Then, I put all the pictures in
description.

Some of the pictures were not in the computer. So, I had to scan the pictures and take snapshots and
uploaded it on computer. I double checked if all the numbers were correct.

On wednesday, I started completing the task left on monday. I checked the reports to see if there is any
picture that was missing. Then I wrote down the updated number of sales and rate. Now, I can do all the
task on my own. My supervisor does not need to guide me everytime I get this type of work because I
know exactly how to do this.

Then, I had a conversation with my supervisor how do they negotiate with foreign buyers. He explained
in details how to be a good negotiator. To maximize profit and maintain good relation with buyers
negotiation plays a crucial role.
