b) Provide guidelines for international trade so that
the country can be promoted further
c) Conduct research and development in various
areas for the country’s well-being
d) Promote import and export activities; and
e) Provide and maintain public services

6.1 What is Lobbying and Who is a
Lobbyist?
- Act of as trying to influence a politician or public official on
an issue.
- 2 major groups where it involves the process of influencing:
a) The public;
b) Governmental Policy
Different types of Government Relations:

a) Campaign to mobilise constituens at the grassroots


b) Political fund-raising and contributions programme
c) A variety of communications technologies and
techniques;and
d) Alliances with trade associations, and with other
groups
Example of lobbying:
Corporations spend over three bilions dollars each year to hire
lobbyists to lobby Congress.
Tax Breaks
In 2017, more than 6,000 lobbyists lobbied for the Tax Cuts and Jobs
Act of 2018. Because of the law, companies pay fewer taxes than
ever before.
Drug Approvals
Over 1,000 lobbyists worked on the 21st Century Cures Act, which
authorized $6.3 billion in funding and changed the
drug approval process at the FDA

can handle
