What is an antivirus software?
Antivirus software is a computer program which is used to prevent,detect
and remove malware which can harm your computer and the data on
them.They were originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses
but now modern antivirus softwares have protection against keyloggers,
trojan horses ,browser hijackers etc..
How does an Antivirus software work?
Antivirus software cross-checks definitions in database files for
known malicious software. It works by detecting or deleting
malicious code, to prevent malware from causing damage to
your device
But what about viruses that are yet to be identified in a Database or
Encryption?
Hackers can encrypt viruses(or parts of their signature ) so that they
cannot be matched.They also use Mutations so that once a malware
infects a device it produces viruses of all shapes and sizes.

But the best antiviruses have a few strategies of their own,one such
strategy is the Heuristic analysis Where instead of trying to detect a
single mutation it will combine related ones into families,that way it
makes detection of viruses easier.

Another is the Rootkit detection which is used to check and see

which actions the programs are attempting to execute and based on
those actions it determines whether it is a malicious one or not.
