b) The population of a village increases by 20% every year. The District Assembly grants the village
GH¢15.00per head at the beginning of every year. f the population of the village was 3,000 in the 2003,
calculate the Assembly's total grant to the village from 2003 to 2007

2. a) If + = calculate the value of x

b) A trader bought some bags of rice and some bags of beans for sale in his shop. Each bag of rice cost
N2,250.00 while each bag of beans cost N2,400.00. If the trader bought 17 bags altogether and paid
N39,600.00, how many bags of beans did he buy?

3. A garden in the form of a square is surrounded by a path which is 1m wide on two opposite sides
and ½m wide on the other two opposite sides. If the area of the path is 17m2 calculate the:
a) perimeter of the garden;
b) area of the space covered by the garden and the path.

4. a) If sin x = , where 0° ≤ x ≤ 90°, without using tables or calculator, calculate

b) In the diagram, ∠PQT = 200o, ∠TQR= 32 and ∠QRS = x. Find the value of x.
5. A fair die is thrown two times.
a) Construct a table of the outcomes.
b) Calculate the probability that the:
i) sum of the outcomes is 8,
ii) product of outcomes is less than 10;
iii) outcomes contain at least a 3

a) A number is written as 37 in base x. Twice the number is written as 75 in base x. Find the value of x.
b) There are 5 more girls than boys in a class. If2 boys join the class, the ratio of girls to boys will be
5:4. Find the:
i) number of girls in the class;
ii) total number of pupils in the class;
iii) probability of selecting a boy as the class prefect

a) In the diagram, ABCD is square of side 5 m. P, Q, R and S are points on the square such that |AP| =
|BQ| = |CR| = |DS| = x
i) Show that the area of the square PQRS is (2x2 - 10x + 25) m2.
ii) Find correct to two decimal places, the values of x for which the area of PORS is 3/5 of that of ABCD

b) If = d and 2s = n (a + l), express s in terms n and d only.

a) In the diagram, WXYZ is a segment of a circle such that XZ is the perpendicular bisector of WY. If
|XZ|=8 cm |WY|=64 cm, calculate the radius of the circle.
b) A silo in the form of a pyramid on a square base has height 27 cm and volume 2601cm3. Calculate
the:
i) length of the base of the silo, correct to 3 significant figures;
ii) angle between a sloping face and the base of the silo, correct to the nearest degree.

In the diagram, ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral. AB and DC are produced to meet at P, AD and BC are
produced to meet at Q.
If ∠DOC=76°, ∠BPC = 52° and ∠BCP = x, calculate the value of x
b) i) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct a rhombus MNOQ of m length 10cm and
∠MNO = 45°
ii) Measure:

b) A ship leaves port P and sails on a bearing of N45°E to port Q, 15km away. It then sails on a bearing
of S45°E to port R,20km away
i) Represent the information in a diagram,
ii) Calculate, correct to the nearest whole number, the:
a) distance from P to R;
B) bearing of P from R.

i) triangle ABC with vertices A(4, 2), B(0,2) and C(0,8)
ii) the image triangle A1B1C1 of triangle ABC under a mapping
