4. Analyze the symbolism of the conch shell in the first two chapters and
create the visual representation of it. 3 paragraphs.

In the first two chapters of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell serves
as a powerful symbol of civilization and order. When Ralph first
discovers the conch, he uses it to call the other boys to a meeting
and establish a sense of authority. The conch represents the idea
of a common goal and a sense of unity among the boys. It
symbolizes the hope of rescue, as the boys use it to signal to
passing ships and as they hope to be rescued.

Throughout the first two chapters, the conch serves as a unifying

symbol and a reminder of the boys' civilized past. It represents the
idea of democracy and order, as it is used to call meetings and to
maintain a sense of structure among the boys. However, as the
story progresses, the conch's power and symbolism begin to
deteriorate as the boys become more savage and violent. It
serves as a reminder of the boys' loss of civilization, as they forget
its importance and let it break in the end.

In visual representation, the conch shell could be depicted as a

symbol of hope and rescue, by depicting it shining in the sun or
as a symbol of order and democracy, by depicting it in a formal
and symmetrical way. It could also be depicted as a symbol of
deterioration, showing the cracks and breaks in the conch as a
metaphor of the loss of civilization in the boys. Overall the conch
shell is a powerful symbol of the boys' struggle to maintain order
and civilization on the island, and its visual representation could
be used to convey this message effectively.

5. Write a 300-words journal entry from the perspective of one of the

characters in the first two chapters
(Piggy)
As soon as I woke up, the only thing I saw around me was
destruction, as we landed on this island, with no signs of other
people around, I found comfort when I met Ralph at the lagoon,
we had this long conversation, which calmed down both of us, at
least a little bit. As we were desperate to find the rest of our
companions, we found a conch, which we used to attract any
other survivors. When we finally met, they started targeting me for
no apparent reason, which I consider as unjust accounting for the
situation we’re in as we should all be united. Ralph thought the
same, as when we voted for someone to lead us, he came the
close winner just above Jack, who seemed desperate to get the
position himself. After Ralph negotiated with Jack and made him
and his group the hunters of the pack, I insisted him to let me
accompany them to explore the island, as I find this as an
opportunity to explore this fascinating new world that had been
presented to me. Nonetheless, he refused, and, as always,
underestimating my capabilities, left me behind. As days passed, I
came to behold the problems we faced, being disorganization
and ignorance the two principal ones. They never consider my
saying in anything, as I think they consider I’m just whining, but
when the boy who talked about the monster on the island
mysteriously disappeared, I knew something was going on, and I
had a reason to be anxious about our actions all along.
Establishing the signal to get help was surely the correct
approach at first, but we need to solve the problems inside of the
island before establishing contact with our, hopefully soon to
come, rescuers.
