APU CONTROLS - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General

A. This procedure gives the steps to do a check of the operation of the full authority digital electronic

controller (FADEC). The FADEC is installed in the aft cargo compartment of the airplane. The rack for

the FADEC is found on the aft right side of the aft cargo compartment.

2. Full Authority Digital Electronic Controller (FADEC) Test

A. General

(1) This procedure is a scheduled maintenance task.

(1) Open this access door to get access to the FADEC:

(2) Make sure this circuit breaker is closed:

(a) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit

(3) Make sure the BAT switch on the P5 forward overhead panel is in the ON position.

(4) Do the test for the operation of the FADEC:

(a) Push the FAULT DISPLAY switch on the FADEC.

(b) Make sure the fault display on the FADEC shows the engine identification number and the

FADEC BITE code(s) continuously for one complete cycle.

NOTE: Each FADEC BITE code will show for five seconds on the fault display. The fault

display will show OK if there were no FADEC BITE code(s) found by the FADEC.

The fault display will show N/A if there were no history records found by the

FADEC.

(c) After one complete cycle, the FADEC BITE code from the last shutdown will show on the

fault display for 10-15 seconds and then goes out of view.

(d) Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the ON position for 30

seconds and then to the OFF position.

NOTE: Do not move the APU master switch to the START position. With the APU master

switch in the ON position, the FADEC will flash the fault display with full intensity

for 0.5 second. This will be followed by a flash of the fault display at half intensity

for another 0.5 second.

(e) Look at the fault display on the front of the FADEC.

NOTE: The fault display will show the FADEC BITE code for the last shutdown or a

message of OK. The fault display will show a message for 5 minutes.

(f) After 5 minutes, make sure the fault display on the FADEC goes out of view.

(5) Set the BAT switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position.

(6) Close this access door for the airplane:
