Assessment 1: Poster Design and Production


Semester Grade Contribution 20%

Due date: last lesson of the week - commencing Monday 20 February 2017

For this assessment task, you will use your prior knowledge and understanding of populations to
produce a poster that presents information in a creative and interesting way.

Your completed Poster must include all of the following essential components:

1. Name of your country – with relevant and appropriate photographs and other images.
(see instructions below – under heading of Presentation)

2. You must also include the following pieces of information:


 Population history – since 1850 – presented as a line graph.
 Population pyramids – for current year.
 An analysis of the data on population for sex and age differences.
 Calculation of the country’s population density.
 GDP (wealth) per capita (per person).
 Economic activities – how do they make their money?

3. Work out the future prospects of your countries


 What problems lie ahead?
 What are the positive signs for the future?
 Is the population aging rapidly, slowly or is there negative growth?
 What is the death rate?
 What type of population policy does the country’s government need to implement?
A) Negative growth - Ageing population – health care for the aged, pensions, immigrants
for more workers
B) Rapid growth – younger population – schools, more jobs for school leavers
C) Slow growth – needs younger people, long life expectancy

 Provide a brief description about your chosen country.
 Place it on a map – ensuring that you include all of the BOLTSS.
 Arrange the population information about the country in an interesting manner.
 You may hand-draw your poster or produce it on the computer – using any program;
or you may create your poster by using a combination of methods and media.
