Elevation Depression LP
Elevation Depression LP
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 100 % of the students with 80% level of proficiency
are expected to:
Illustrate angles of elevation and angles of depression.
Identify the angle of elevation and angle of depression.
Solve problems involving angles of elevation and depression.
III. Procedures
A. Routinary Activities
a. Prayer
Very good!
A
C b c2 =(3) 2 + (4)2
c2 = 9 + 16
c2 = 25
Exactly! √c2 =√25
Who wants to solve on the board? c=5
Excellent!
How about angle B?
Since the sum of the measures of a
triangle is 180° and we have already the
measure of angle A, we can now solve for
angle B. We will just subtract the measure of
angle A to angle C which is right angle and
measures 90°, we will have
C–A=B
90° - 37° = B
B = 90° - 37°
B = 53°
None, Sir!
That’s right!
Is there any question regarding our previous
lesson?
C. Motivation
E. Lesson Proper
Very good!
Let’s take a look at the following illustrations.
ANGLE OF ELEVATION
ANGLE OF DEPRESSION
Very good!
Now, let us identify whether the following
shows angle of elevation or angle of depression.
Angle of elevation
Angle of depression
Angle of depression
Angle of elevation
Angle of elevation
Yes, Sir!
Very good!
Let’s have another example.
tanϴ = opposite
adjacent
tan400 = 45
x
tan400x = 45
tan400x = 45
tan400 tan400
x = 53.6 ft.
Very good!
Therefore, his partner is 53.6 ft from the
base of the tower.
tanϴ = opposite
adjacent
tan580 = 10
x
tan580x = 10
tan580x = 10
tan580 tan580
x = 6.2ft
Yes, Sir!
None Sir!
That’s correct!
Do you understand, class?
Any question?

B. Illustrate and solve the following problems.
1. The base of a pine tree is100 ft. Its top 100 ft.
was sighted as forming 38° with the ground. Find
the height of the tree.
2. An airplane pilot’s sights a life raft at a 26 0 tanϴ = opposite
angle of depression. The airplane’s height is 3km. adjacent
What is the airplane’s surface distance from the tan 380 = x
raft? 100
x = tan380(100)
x = 78.13 ft.
