Manipal Institute of Technology, a constituent institution of Manipal University has adopted
credit based system from the academic year 2001-02 and currently 10-point credit system is being
followed. Accordingly, at the end of each term the student is awarded a letter grade based on
his/her relative performance in the course. Eligibility criteria for the degree is based on the
number of credits earned by the student. The overall performance of a student is indicated by
Grade Point Average (GPA) of semester and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), the
weighted average of GPAs of all semesters that the student has completed at any point of time.

The grades are awarded based on relative performance and it has no correlation with any
percentage of marks obtained and therefore it is not possible to convert CGPA to
sgregate
percentage marks. Also the final degree certificate will not mention any class/ranks whatsoever.
However, some of the industries/organizations that have specified percentage of marks/class as
minimum el
lity criteria for placement often requests for University Guidelines for conversion
of CGPA to Aggregate Percentage Marks obtained. Similar requests are also coming from few
students who wish to take inter-university transfers in between the academic programs.
As per the Manipal University Senate meeting held on September 10, 2016, the following
guidelines for conversion of CGPA to aggregate marks is recommended for all credit based
programs of Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal.
Aggregate percentage marks obtained = CGPA * 10.00
