Scaffolding Awareness Training Report

The assessment of 13 scaffolders starts @ 10: 15 am in the scaffolding yard. I divided into 3 teams, 4
men on each team. First I explained what they are going to do and give the exact drawing including
the size and dimension of scaffold that they are going to built. I also explained to them that I want to
see in terms of the sequence of the erection, safe system of work, work as a team and follow the BS
EN 12811-1 procedure.

Noticed when they start the job, all of them get and prepared their scaffolding materials and lay
down in the working area. After that they start doing the foundation step by step. One guy holding
the standard while the other is fixing the ledger and transom then use the spirit level to make it sure
that it is plumb and level. I noticed also that they put 3 temporary boards on the kicker lift to make it
easy for the doing the first level of the scaffold. After that they used full body harness and access
ladder to climb up to complete the platform, handrails and toe boards.

They demonstrate good practical skills especially during the foundation, eventhough they are
struggling in erection sequence, still they shown competency on how to erect and dismantle
scaffold.

The following day the 12 scaffolders do the same.

I continue the training at around 08:15 am. After they completed the PSI I explained what they are
going to do. I handed the sketch drawing of 2 x 6 meter by 4 meter and a height of 6 meter birdcage
scaffold with bridge and a cantilever on the side. I was pleased of their working performance. I’ve
seen their team work, safe system of the job and how to complete the job safely; also I’ve seen that
they put a barricade around the working area and signage to warn all personnel to pass on that area.

I noticed also while they are working on top, they followed the 100 % tie off especially when they are
traversing in other area. After they finished the task they housekeep all the excess scaffolding gear
and returned it back to the stillage area.
