The

Parable of the Ten Virgins, also known as the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins or
the Parable of the ten bridesmaids, is one of the parables of Jesus.

Matthew 25:1-13

Ang kaharian ng langit ay maitutulad dito. May sampung dalagang lumabas upang sumalubong
sa lalaking ikakasal. Bawat isa'y may dalang ilawan.

11
“Pagkatapos, dumating naman ang iba pang dalaga. ‘Panginoon, panginoon,
papasukin po ninyo kami!’ pakiusap nila.
12
“Ngunit tumugon siya, ‘Sino ba kayo? Hindi ko kayo kilala.’”
13
Pagkatapos nito'y sinabi ni Jesus, “Kaya't magbantay kayo, sapagkat hindi ninyo alam
ang araw o ang oras man.”
Matt.25 Verses 1 to 13

[1] Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their
lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
[2] And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
[3] They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
[4] But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
[5] While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
[6] And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye
out to meet him.
[7] Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
[8] And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone
out.
[9] But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and
you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
[10] And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready
went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
[11] Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
[12] But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
[13] Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of
man cometh.
=================================================================

In this story, it is expected that the bridesmaids would await the arrival of the bridegroom and
greet him with a procession of light in the darkness.
Likely, the bridesmaids are waiting either at the bride’s home for the groom to come and fetch
her or at the home of the groom’s family where the wedding would take place.
All the maids have either lamps or perhaps large torches. All are waiting with their lamps lit in
eager expectation of the groom’s appearance.

LAMP
What is the purpose of oil in a lamp?
A lamp is a device that holds and burns fuel, typically oil, as a means of producing light.
Although oil lamps have taken on a variety of shapes and sizes throughout history, the basic
required components are a wick, fuel, a reservoir for fuel, and an air supply to maintain a flame.
Who were the 5 foolish virgins?
The foolish virgins were those unrighteous women who were unprepared for the coming of the
bridegroom (Christ) and consequently had the gates of heaven closed to them.

- Spirit like a dove - Luke 3:22, Leviticus 2:1-2.
- The oil in the wise virgins' lamps represents their righteous living and obedience

BRIDEGROOM
- JESUS CHRIST

V5
The bridegroom is delayed.
Due to the delay of the groom and the late hour, all the bridesmaids have fallen asleep.  Their
sleepiness is not the problem, since both wise and foolish alike have become drowsy. The wise
brought extra oil for their lamps (verses 2-4). Both groups knew that the groom was coming and
waited with their lamps burning, but only half considered that the wait in the darkness might be
longer than anticipated.
Through the story of ten virgins, this parable is meant to tell us that we do not know when the
Lord's coming is, so we must stay vigilant and prepared.
The parable is summed up in verse 13. The imperative often translated as “keep awake” might
best be rendered, “be vigilant.” In this parable, the bridegroom’s arrival was certain. The
uncertainty of the timing illustrates the need for constant vigilance.
“represent those church members who are looking for the Bridegroom to come; and the oil-
filled lamps are symbolic of the Holy Spirit which lights the way before the saints.
In this parable, the Savior taught us how to prepare for His Second Coming. In these last days,
the Lord has said, “Be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil
with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom”

Matthew 24-45-51

Dapat Palaging Maging Handa

45
49

o maging ang Anak man].[a] Ang Ama lamang ang nakakaalam nito.
