DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates understanding of Media and information literacy
(MIL) and MIL related concepts.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learner organizes a creative and interactive symposium for the
community focusing on being a media and information literate individual.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Compare and contrast how one particular issue or news is presented
through the different types of media (print, broadcast, online).

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. To identify the different types of media.
b. To discuss types of media; and
c. To draw a poster on how different media is affecting your everyday life.

TYPES OF MEDIA
The term News Media refers to the groups communicate information and
news to people. As noted, the majority of people obtain information from
the news media. The increasing reliance on this media has encouraged media
outlet to respond to such demands of the time by making the news available
through television and the internet. As this develops three main types of
news media, the PRINT, BROADCAST and Online/digital media.

Print Media - these media include Newspaper, magazines, journal,


newsletters and other printed material serve as the oldest media form. The
influence of print media is therefore significant. Regular readers of print
media tend to be more likely to be politically active. The print media is
responsible for reporting than other news source. Many news reports on
television are merely follow-up stories about news first appeared in
newspapers.

Broadcast media – are news report broadcast via radio and television.
Television news is considered as vital in every country. Most people largely
rely in getting their news from television broadcast than from any other
source.

Online/Digital/Internet Media - Relying on online sources of news instead of


traditional print and broadcast media, the use of internet gains popularity
among individuals. It easily captures the needs of times.
