DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates understanding of Media and information literacy
(MIL) and MIL related concepts.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learner organizes a creative and interactive symposium for the
community focusing on being a media and information literate individual.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Identify the similarities and differences between and among media literacy,
information literacy, and technology literacy

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. To define the meaning of media, information and technology literacy.
b. To differentiate the media, information and technology literacy; and
c. To write a comparison of three concepts by using a graphic organizer.
I. SUBJECT MATTER:
a. TOPIC: Communication Media and Information
b. REFERENCE: MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY textbook
c. MATERIALS: chalk and chalkboard, manila paper and pentel pen
d. STRATEGIES: Active Learning and Direct Instruction
e. VALUES INTEGRATED: Observer, Competence and Hard work

Direction: Study the statement below and write on the blank before the

Media, Information, and Technology Literacy

Media and Information Literacy plays an important role in the


communication and information dissemination. Media and Information will
enable us to access, understand and create communications in a variety of
contexts in the form of accessing, understanding and creating media and
information. Media and Information plays several roles. Such as acts as
channels of information and knowledge through which citizens communicate
with each other and make informed decisions facilitate informed social
actors provide us with much of what we learn about the world beyond or
immediate experience are means by which a society learns about itself and
builds a sense of community function as a watchdog of government in all its
forms, promoting transparency in public life and public scrutiny of those with
power through exposing corruption, maladministration and more. Media
literacy, Information literacy and technology literacy are all similar in term of
goals. They all share the common goal of cultivating people’s ability to
access, understand, use, evaluate and create media messages, information
or content using information technology.
Definition
Media Literacy The ability to read, analyze, evaluate and produce
communication in a variety of media forms.

Information Literacy The ability to recognize when information is needed


and to locate, evaluate, effectively use and communicate information in its
various formats.

Technology Literacy The ability to use digital technology, communication


tools or networks to locate, evaluate, use, and create information
