2. Concepts
2.2. POSITIVE pressure

Purpose: to keep the clean room in aseptic conditions

How: preventing the entry of untreated or contaminated air

Into the room by keeping a difference of pressure between two
rooms Process to get a positive pressure:
• Through forced air purifiers fresh air is collected, purified and moved into the clean room •
During this process bacteria are burnt and elliminated.
• The air recovered inside is less than the air entering the room.
• This process can only be achieved by sealing all the openings.
• A hermetic door ensures the effectiveness of this process by
keeping a positive pressure
2.3. NEGATIVE pressure

• Purpose: to keep rooms adjoined to a

contaminated (dirty) area in aseptic conditions

2. Concepts
• How: evacuating contaminated air

• Process to obtain a NEGATIVE pressure environment:

• Forcing contaminated air out of the room through air purification machines.
• Air absorption is higher than the air introduced in the room.
• This process can only be achieved by sealing all the openings.
• The hermetic door ensures the effectiveness of this process.

• Applications: decontamination rooms,

morgues, etc.
2.4. Clean corridor and dirty corridor

• Clean corridor: for access of patients,

doctors and other persons with access to
operating theatresor clean rooms.

2. Concepts
• Dirty corridor: used by maintenance staff to access a clean room,
collect the tools and clothes used during the operation
(contaminated), and take them to decontamination area.

• The surgery room must be equipped with two doors: one leading a
clean corridor, and a back door leading to a dirty corridor.

• A hermetic door prevents clean corridor and clean rooms being

contaminated, separating them from a dirty area.

• Both doors must be working in an airlock configuration.

Contributes keeping the clean room free of contamination.
Seals an opening to keep different levels of pressure between two
rooms.
Optimizes the use of clean air inside an operating theatre.
Reduce operating costs of a clean room or operating theatre.

MAX Compact laminates are high pressure laminates (HPL) according to European norm EN
438. HPL are sheets consisting of layers of cellulose fibrous material (normally paper)
impregnated with thermosetting resins and bonded together by the high pressure process. The
process, defined as the simultaneous application of heat (≥ 120°C) and high specific pressure (≥
5 MPa) provides flowing and subsequent curing of the thermosetting resins to obtain a
homogenous non porous material (≥ 1,35 g/cm³) with the required surface finish.
Basically 2/3 of the HPL consists of paper and the remaining 1/3 of cured phenol-formaldehyde
resins for the core layers and melamine-formaldehyde resin for the surface layers plus an
urethane-acrylic coating in case of MAX Exterior.
The resins belonging to the group of thermosetting resins are irreversibly cross linked by
chemical bonds formed during the curing process producing a nonreactive, stable material with
characteristics which are totally different from those of its component parts.
MAX Compact laminates are supplied in sheet form in a variety of sizes, thicknesses
and surface finishes.
