LEGEND

Legend has it that once, a group of people were very tired, singing prayers asking in their pleas to calm the hunger,
the thirst they suffered. When, from one moment to the next, they saw a condor come Down from heaven, become a
man. Overwhelmed by drought, men and women walked tirelessly, singing prayers, asking in those pleas to calm the
hunger and thirst they suffered. In such despair they saw a beautiful Condor that came Down from heaven and
became a man. Everyone was amazed at such a prodigy and returned to their homes to wait for the Good omen that
cóndor this Lord of the Heights had given them as a sign of his prayers. After the man toured sandbanks and ravines,
he appeared at the door of the house of a beautiful woman, daughter of the Curaca and offered her, in exchange for
loving him, to give her people the vital element of nature so that plants germinate on earth. The woman agreed and
since the strange man knew the mysteries of nature, he took her to the mountains and told her to cry for her people.
And she cried for many days: her feeling was so great that the tears pierced the ground and became a great river
that reached the valley where she lived. The strange man transformed into a Condor again and, telling the woman
that he was the Lord of the Heights, he asked for her soul. They went down to the upper part of the Nasca valley and
the woman left her body turning into a gigantic Cerro Blanco. They say that when they see the Condor fly over the
hill, it announces comings of water. And they also say that the Lord of the Heights, wanting to reward the fidelity of
this woman, sends his favors to all the inhabitants of the region.
