FIRST OF ALL: watch the trailer of the TV series Years and Years.

When you finish watching it come back to our class. We will comment on the series and what
you think it is about. Who do you think Mrs Rook is? Whom could she be compared to?

To go wrong: 0:12 salir mal

To blame.- 0: to hold responsible for (echarle la culpa a alguien)

Helpless 0:46.- good example of word formation. (help+less= sin ayuda, es decir, desvalido)

Bargain: 1:07 chollo, oferta

Peasant: 1:16 campesino

Hand over our quid.- 1:26 soltamos, damos, una libra (quid=libra)

Buy into something.- believe something

Till.- caja registradora

Complaint.- 1:48 queja. The verb is to complain about something (quejarse de algo). The verb
has no t.

To put up with something.- 1:55 tolerate something

To get rid of something.- 2:19 deshacerse de algo

When you finish watching the video, then begin to discuss it. Below you have some
questions that may inspire you.

1) Discuss whether you think it is really our fault.

2) Do you consider that holding responsible normal people for the situation in which we
are living now is an oversimplification?
3) To what extent do you think that normal people can change society?
4) What does grandma make reference to when she says “sweeping tides of history”?
(quite philosophical a comment for a granny!)
5) What preposition follows the adjective responsible? (notice that it is spelt (se escribe)
with an “I”, not “A”)
6) Why do we like the checkout points in supermarkets, according to grandma?
7) What other things you think we do that grandma would say are our fault?
