ARTS ACROSS CANADA:


Circulation and Touring
The Circula on and Touring component of Arts Across Canada funds touring and exhibi on
ac vi es of Canadian ar sts, ar s c groups and arts organiza ons. Grants support the
presenta on and exhibi on of performances and works by Canadian ar sts which build na onal
exposure and reach Canadian audiences.
You may be eligible for Applica on Assistance to pay someone to help you with the applica on
process if you are experiencing di culty and self-iden fy as:

• an ar st who is Deaf, hard of hearing, has a disability or is living with a mental illness

• a First Na ons, Inuit or Mé s ar st facing language, geographic and/or cultural barriers.

Your eligibility to apply to this component is determined by the validated pro le created in the
portal.
Organiza ons presently receiving core (opera ng) grants can apply to this component.

Des na ons must be at least 250 kilometers from your place of departure for:

• the circula on or touring of ar sts, exhibi ons or ar s c works to 3 or more Canadian


des na ons (art exhibi ons must include at least 2 des na ons outside your home
province or territory)
• cross-border Canada/United States tours with the majority of events in Canada
• self-presenta on and/or circula on and touring to fewer than 3 Canadian des na ons,
if you provide a strong market development ra onale or outreach strategy

You can’t apply for ac vi es that occur before your project start date, those that receive
funding from another Canada Council program or those on the general list of ineligible
ac vi es.

When determining your project start date, individuals should be aware that according to the
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), expenses incurred in the year immediately before a grant is

received are only deduc ble from the grant if they are incurred a er the ar st has received
no ca on that the grant will be paid. For more informa on about income taxes and your

Expenses - What is eligible?


ie Direct costs related to the ac vity, including:
• ar sts’ fees
• transporta on
• accommoda on and per diem

• addi onal shipping or baggage costs directly related to the ac vity
• touring produc on and exhibi on expenses (excluding engagements at the Na onal
Arts Centre)
• promo on and project management
• pre-tour ar sts’ fees and produc on expenses for remoun ng exis ng work (for
performing arts only)

Assessment - How are decisions made?


Your applica on to the Circula on and Touring component of Arts Across Canada will be
assessed by a peer assessment commi ee represen ng a discipline or group of disciplines on
the following weighted criteria, and must receive a minimum score in each category to be
considered for a grant:
Impact 50% (minimum score of 35 out of 50)
The poten al of the project to:
• enhance the Canadian public’s apprecia on of the arts

• generate future opportuni es for you or the ar sts involved


Ar s c Merit 30% (minimum score of 15 out of 30)
• The ar s c quality of the work
• The suitability of the work for des na on markets
Feasibility 20% (minimum score of 10 out of 20)

Once registered in the portal, you will need to provide informa on about your:
• project and its poten al impact
• i nerary
• budget
• market development and outreach strategies, if applicable

• at least 1 invita on, le er of intent or rm commitment
• samples of the work(s) to be toured/circulated or a sample of similar work(s)

Grant payment and nal reports
If your applica on is successful, the rst step in receiving your grant payment is to complete
the Grant Acceptance Form. Click here for more informa on on the responsibili es of grant

This informa on helps the Canada Council collect examples of art forms and prac ces in
Canada and will not be used for assessing your applica on.
