1. BACKGROUND
A portrait photograph is a great way to show your subject face. There are many different styles of
portrait photography, but we are going to focus on corporate headshot photography which is one of
the most popular. This type of portrait usually works better with only one light and reflector to create
dramatic lighting effects that help emphasise your subject’s features while downplaying any flaws or
imperfections by using shadows and highlights.
2. LEARNING OBJECTIVE
The key lesson to take away from this project:
Project Description
Introduction to natural light and studio light: different techniques in studio and natural light using
different moods while using the same subject matter.
Learning Objective:
● Apply theoretical knowledge
● Use different light sources in a portrait for different moods, emotions and expressions.
● Using basic light on Campus outside or inside buildings.
● Cropping images techniques by using different aspect ratios.
● Presentation skills in electronic format by using a proper Photo Grid Layout.
3. BRIEF
Why are we doing this project?
The purpose of this project is based on understanding both natural and studio lighting in photography
but focusing on Portrait Corporate headshots. Therefore you’re required to come up with a Creative
Corporate Headshots Photography to be used for your Linkedin profile, you will be working in a group
of 4, whereby each one of you will play a role as a Director, Photographer, Assistant and Model.
● Book a camera as a group for the natural light shoots; outside and inside the building on
Campus. Shoot 4 portrait style shots Vertically and horizontally with a small aperture -
shallow Depth of Field. Strictly (M) Manual Mode.
What will be the result of this project? The final result will be based on the following:
● An InDesign Template showcasing all your 16 images in total. To be submitted in Photo 2
Final Portal
● Best 5 images, beautifully layered out
● An A2 Black card Window Mount with 5 printed gloss images in different aspect ratios. To be
pinned up on the wall.
● Linkedin profile with your headshot photograph Jumbo size print mounted on A5 black card
with white borders

16:9 Head and shoulders Rule thirds or Golden Spiral Crop. NATURAL LIGHT
7. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
These are the main technical keypoint you will be marked on:
● Attendance & Consultation 10%: Present at the brief, and consulting with the lecturer.
● Research & Concept 15%: Shooting preparation, Outfit mood board and Repertoire.
● Available Light 20%: Shots with a Short depth of field, with good exposure & composition.
● Studio Light 20%: Subject composure, focus Sharpness, dramatic shadows & highlights.
● Final 5 photographs 25%: Glossy printed in required ratios mounted and labelled on A2.
● Presentation & Execution 10%: Linkedin Profile, Correct use of Image placement, and
correct labelling.
